Will they read a two-page recommendation?

It's more like 1.75 pages but still.

I'm sending the rec. as part of my supplement. It's a fantastic letter but I'm a bit worried they'll go "jesus, this is way too long" and put it aside.

What do you think?

Thank you ^^

my pastor wrote one for me that was that long too. He had really highlighted my Africa trip but since I wrote my essay on that, I told him to cut it out. Somehow, he got it to one page although I didnt see it. See if he can cut out some of the "fluff" and highlight just one or two unique aspects

Of course! If a teacher has that much to say about you, colleges will deff be interested in your rec. After all, there usually isn't a limit to how long a teacher rec can be.

Alas, we're in different countries now and he's a bit busy... can't really ask him to cut it down. Hopefully caltech27 is correct!

Thank you for the feedback! (:

Most of the Adcoms DO NOT like to read letters or essays because they have so many to read. If that is your only one then fine but if you also have another one plus you counselor,
I'd suggest that you trim it a bit.

Where do people get this Adcoms don't want to read your application BS? That's their job for one and they took the job because they want to do it... As long as what you send is within what's allowed for the school (ie if it says no more than 1 supplemental don't send more than one only because that shows you can't follow directions) then you're fine. The Adcoms won't say oh I don't feel like reading this so I won't. That's the same as a teacher saying I don't feel like teaching you guys this topic because I'm too lazy so I won't. It doesn't happen and its stupid to assume that if what you send is within what's allowed that it could still be too much and they won't read it/get annoyed by it. Even ask some of the people on CC that have worked as Adcoms.

Actually, I spoke with the Assist Director of Admins at Rice and she is the one who told me to have only one letter of rec and that 2 pages would be long because she has so many to read. She also said that if there are more than the teacher's rec, then she simply wont read them. That's for Rice, I dont know how other schools are in that regards.

I am surprised that you are even allowed to see your recs..my school doesn't show them to us! not allowerd to

one of mine was 2.25 but the other was shorter... i'm not worried.

i think it is funny that people talk about how you shouldnt have things that long

like oh boy!!!! your essay is 1200 words...you are SCREWED!! u need to cut it down
honestly....if you arent being redundant and have something meaningful to say, the admissions officer will be happy to learn more about you. honestly it probably takes them an extra 2 minutes to read a 1300 word essay than it does to read a 900 word one

To pyles_m then I'd assume that's in the school's policy that they tell you don't send in any extra letters or keep them down to a certain length. I just mean in general unless they state the limits and you're not complying or unless you go over board (like 4 extra recs or essays or something dumb) then it won't be bad. I mean obviously if they say 500 word limit on an essay and you write 1200 that's bad but if a school says they'll accept extra letters (like say Harvard on their FAQ's says that they'll accept 2-3 supplemental letters) then sending 2-3 would not be unreasonable if they're not redundant.
