My son got admitted and Cal Poly is his first choice. He is not doing well on one of his AP courses this final semester, and will most likely get a F. His school counselor suggested he may drop the course, and then get a W instead of F. My son is overloaded this semester with 5 hard AP courses as well as varsity sports team and some long trips. So, he is not doing well on this one course which he always has had difficulties to begin with.
will a F definitely make the school to rescind the admission offer? Is a W better? What are the other options?
I emailed to the school admission office 5 days ago but have not gotten response back yet. I asked my son to directly call or email them but my son has not done it yet.
I suggest he takes his counselor’s advice…a W is better than an F. Make sure your son keeps his other grades up! Anything missing or graded below a C will be pulled this summer when transcripts are reviewed. If his other grades are good and he explains he took on too much, it may not be a problem ( I imagine this depends somewhat on his major).
He needs to call and ask what his best option is. It’s unlikely that they’ll respond to you. He also needs to know that HE and no one else will rescinded. If he’s ok going to community college, he should continue to sit on his hands.
an update: My son studied really hard and pulled it through. He finally passed that difficult AP course with satisfactory grades, and he’s got good grades on any other course.
thanks for the information and help from all of you, especially eyemgh and skieurope…
