Will this cover my biology prereqs?

Here's what I have as far as biology coursework:

8 hours of AP credit for these two courses:
General Bio+Lab
Special Topics in Organismal Bio+Lab

Graded Courses at my college (all within the biology department):
Anatomy and Physiology+Lab
Genetics and Molecular Biology (No lab offered at my school for this)
Animal Behavior+Lab

Will this cover my bio prereqs at most schools (with the exceptions of those that don't accept supplementation of AP credit for the bio prereq)?

*Animal Behavior+Lab

*

Is there something else that has a lab?

You could always retake gen bio for the easy A. They should be okay, but I believe a small handful of schools may not accept anat and phys as your pre-req.

^^^

???

Is that true? Some med schools will not accept Anat and Phys with labs as the “next higher up” bio classes when AP Bio was taken?

It will work for many schools because UNC’s transcript reflects the actual UNC classes (by course number) that have been replaced by the AP classes…that’s the key here…you just need to be sure that the schools you are applying to accept that…our experience was that many, even top privates, will do so.

mom2:

not all colleges are created equal, i.e., not all phys/anat courses require Bio 1. Some phys/anat courses are designed for non-science majors and are not much more than a honors version of HS phys/anat course; such courses enable a student to meet the science GE requirements.

^^^

Ahh…so, if your school’s A and P classes require bio as a pre-req, then it’s ok? And, then, how would med schools know that? Does the student have to include a copy of the course description???

This is the course descriptions from my kid’s school…

BSC 215 Human Anatomy and Physiology I. 4 hours.

Prerequisite: One semester of biology (BSC 108, BSC 109, BSC 114:115, BSC 116:117, BSC 118, or BSC 120) or two semesters of chemistry (CH 101 and CH 102, CH 104 and CH 105, or CH 117 and CH 118) or permission of the instructor.

Lecture, laboratory, and laboratory lecture. Integrated survey of human anatomy and physiology that includes cellular aspects; tissues and skin; the skeletal, muscular, nervous and endocrine systems; and the special senses of sight, hearing, taste, and smell.

BSC 216 Human Anatomy and Physiology II.

Integrated survey of human anatomy and physiology that includes the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.

It will work for many schools because UNC’s* transcript reflects the actual UNC classes (by course number) that have been replaced by the AP classes…that’s the key here…*you just need to be sure that the schools you are applying to accept that…our experience was that many, even top privates, will do so

That’s how my kid’s school does it. What other way is there? (However, no grade is given…just a Pass)

Advanced Placement
Subject Course Title Grade Credit Hours Quality Points R

BSC 114 PRINCIPLES OF BIOLOGY I P 3.000 0.000

BSC 115 LABORATORY BIOLOGY I P 1.000 0.000

BSC 116 PRINCIPLES BIOLOGY II P 3.000 0.000

BSC 117 BIOLOGY II LABORATORY P 1.000 0.000

at my kid’s college, the determining factor is whether course meets the requirements for an elective for Bio majors. If so, the premed committee knows that is a rigorous sciene-based course, and not just (intro) anatomy for philosophers. :)

*and not just (intro) anatomy for philosophers. *

LOL…is that a discussion about “if I had a body, this is what it might be made of?” Kind of like fantasy football for anatomy/philosophy students?

Ok…the premed committee will know this :)

But, will the med schools know this? That’s what I’m asking.
