Will this give me an edge?

I went on a campus tour/info session earlier this month.
I'm going to Discover Davison in September.
I'm going a senior overnight in October.
I'm applying ED.

I'm doing everything I can possibly think of to show Davidson that it is my top choice. Will this help me out at all?

I would imagine. I would definitely go if I were closer

Applying ED is the best edge of all. While I can't remember the exact statistics, if you check Davidson's Common Data Set, you will see that the acceptance rate for ED is significantly higher than for RD.

Good luck!

itll help you if there is one person with the same exact stats is against you. but the ED thing will definitely help you.

the ED admit rate is ~50% and the RD admit rate is ~28%.

i know 50 will give me a pretty good chance, but i think it will still be really tough competition. i mean, i can't even feel close to confident becuase that 1 other person i'm up against is going to be such a competitive candidate himself.

Showing Davidson that you are interested is a really important step...Make sure when you are on campus to talk to people in admissions and attend sessions. I truly believe that you could be a "lesser" applicant who shows a lot more interest than someone who is on paper "better" and be admitted first. Not to say that it could make up for extreme weaknesses in your application but showing a great interest, will go a GREAT way!!!
Good Luck =)

I'd be curious as to how many kids visit.

Take those stats and then break it down by region.

I bet they get very few from the midwest and west coast.

East has probably increased exponentially. South has always been strong.

I think that most schools appreciate the time and expense of making a personal visit and that it could give a decent push if the community needs such a student.

how about ED II, is the admit rate "lower" than ED I since they think you'd be less "loyal"?

I am pretty sure that the admit rate is lower for EDII...Davidson gives a lot of acknowledgment to those who show a lot of interest BUT...I think that a lot of people look at the rates too much...While, applying ED probobly gives someone an edge, a good applicant that they want ED, they will want from the RD pool as well. Having said that, I have found that a lot of the people here did apply ED, but that could just be because they really wanted to go here anyway. There are other ways to get those "showing interest" points without applying ED. Call the admissions office, talk to them, ask questions...if you can come for an overnight or discover - do it. I would almost reccomend coming for an overnight instead of Discover if you can only do one!!! Good luck all...it is an amazing place!!!
