How to show interest?

I can't visit because I'm too far away, although I obviously will if I get accepted.

Davidson is quickly shaping into my first choice school, and I would like to show them. I filled out the form for info on their website, and I guess they'll send me stuff soon. Anything else?

Cesky, have you thought any about applying for early decision?

Perhaps when you get a little farther into your college process and still find that Davidson really is at the top of your list early decision is something to consider. When it comes to showing interest, this is one major way to do it.

Also, contact with the admissions department is always a plus. You can't find a more friendly group of admissions officers than the ones at Davidson. Take advantage of that and don't hessitate to e-mail or call them with any questions you may have about Davidson. Contact is key at any school, but I think Davidson really appreciates and looks favorably upon student initiative and contact.

I do not think I can apply ED, because of the finances of it all. My family probably makes too much money to recieve much need based aid, and yet we can't pay for a school like Davidson at full cost. For my safety schools, I'm hoping for a lot of merit based aid to help. At Davidson, though, if I were to be excepted it would probably be just by a hair, and, therefore, I doubt I'd be recieving mert based aid. I'm not sure if I'm a fit for any of the scholarship awards. To be honest my leadership profile is not outstanding, although I do have an environmental/ecological/recycling/composting program with a local elementary school in the works, but thats only senior year and is in the planning stages at this point. The only one I'd even have a shot at is the creative writing one, and only one or two people get that each year. So yeah... if it weren't for that, I'm pretty sure I'd apply ED

I suppose I'll contact the admissions office.

Davidson admissions officers will be touring the country in the fall; check to see if they will be having a presentation near you. Attending one of these is also a good way to demonstrate interest.

Early decision looks really good. I would reccomend it. You are allowed to turn down early admissions acceptance based on financial reasons - and early decision time is when the financial aid office has the most money to work with. Talk to your college counselour on this because I think it would help you to find out as soon as possible what Davidson's financial package will be.

really? because I'm pretty sure I won't get financial aid. And do they ask you to qualify turning down an early acceptance due to financial reasons? FAFSA and like say we should be able to pay an amount that we cannot pay

I found this:

Students can seek release from an early decision obligation on the grounds of financial hardship, if the financial aid package they are offered is genuinely inadequate; however, the burden of proof in these cases is on the student. (By the way, an important drawback to early decision admissions is that they leave applicants with no leverage to negotiate a better financial aid package – the school knows you can't go anywhere else.)

So does that mean I would have to provide some sort of proof that I couldn't pay for it? Because theoretically I could, of course, take loans, but the idea of being in debt after an undergraduate education does not appeal to me.

From what I've seen in the Common Data Set for Davidson, the acceptance rate for ED is substantially higher than for RD. But the above quote makes it sound like being released from ED for financial reasons is quite difficult. Think very carefully about which choice is right for you.

I've been trying to use the FAFSA frms to get an idea of how much we're expected to pay and I got 27k, which is less than I expected so thats a good thing. If 100% of need were met, that would be do-able. But I definitely have to ask my parents to do it, so I can get a more accurate result

I agree, it seems like you have to be very careful when applying ED
