Will this have a negative effect? Anyone else with similar issues?

I recently applied to USC Marshall & USC SCA as a transfer. For the "describe yourself in 3 words" quick takes inquiry I used an acronym as one of the words. Also, I misspelled a name in one of my SCA essays.

All factors considered, will these mistakes be detrimental to my chances of getting in to USC, specifically Marshall? (since I know SCA is more focused on storytelling ability)

Background factors:
I attend a rigorous 4-year university and I have a 3.88 GPA so far (26 credits completed, 18 in progress). I am on track to receive a 4.0 this semester (bringing my cumulative GPA up to about 3.96). Most of my courses this semester are 200-level. I have satisfied nearly all of the GE requirements for USC except for the the ones you must take at USC.

I graduated high school early and I currently hold 2 leadership position EC's (one career oriented), 1 diversity/community service EC, & 1 volunteer/filmmaking/community service EC (non school related, just a passion of mine) as well as other various volunteer work and being an active writer on my own time. I am a member of a national honor society (though this isn't included on my application). I also received 2 scholarships coming out of high school.

The worst part is, I had low SAT scores, an okay ACT score, and a low unweighted HS GPA (I was in mostly AP/IB/Honors courses and struggled with health concerns discussed in my application that had a negative effect on my entire life).

Other than the stats, I think that my essays were okay (very straightforward), my SCA essays were okay, and I expressed my fun/creative/outgoing personality (as well as what makes me who I am). I don't know about my Reference letters.

**All my EC’s are passions of mine but only one of them is non-school related

If you have achieved a high GPA at a 4-year university considered “rigorous” that would likely wipe the concerns about your high school years. Many students take some time to “mature.”

And if it gives you hope - I looked at my D’s common App materials after everything was submitted (and paid for) and noticed a glaring typo on the supplement for SCA. I didn’t point it out because, by then it was too late to change it and I knew she’d be crushed.

She was accepted anyway. So don’t sweat the small stuff. It might just make you appear more “human” and less “coached.” Good luck! (and congrats on turning your grades around!)

I agree that USC will look MUCH more at what you’ve achieved since HS in considering your transfer application. Sounds like you have an excellent shot at being admitted. Our D applied after one semester at CC, where she earned a 3.8. She was accepted to begin after completing 3 semesters of CC. She has since graduated from SCA.

Congrats on your hard work!

@ArtsandLetters @Hlmom thanks so much for the responses and congratulations to your daughters! I hope I get admitted as well!
