Will this hurt my chances?

If I declare my first choice of major to be Business Administration in the Marshall school of business, will it be harder for me to get in USC because I chose their most reputable school instead of, say, the college of arts and science?

Or can they simply reject me from the marshall school of business and admit me for the college of arts and science?

FYI my second choice major is economics with math at the college of arts and science.

ALSO, how is the pre-law program there. If I want to apply to law school later on, should I take pre-law?

THANKS!!

I talked to an admissions counselor, and she said that it is possible to get rejected from Marshall and still accepted into the College. I’m also scared that declaring my first choice major as Business is going to hurt my chances.

I don’t think there is a pre-law major. Also check out cc law school forum. Pick a major that gives you a high GPA. Law school admissions are about about numbers.

I believe that Marshall is the second biggest school based on their percentage of acceptances. CLAS has the largest percentage and Marshall is pretty close behind it. For that reason, I don’t think it’s really a factor, especially since they allow to declare a second choice major. If the university wants to admit you, they will admit you into the CLAS if they don’t have enough space in Marshall. Definitely don’t hesitate to list Marshall as your first choice and CLAS as your second.

For pre-law it is an emphasis, not a major.

If you apply to specific school, and are rejected admission, you are automatically considered as an undeclared major, so no, it will not hurt your chances at all.

^ Does this apply to transfer students as well? Thanks!
