Will this look bad?

I went to a UC for my first quarter of college, but due to financial issues I had to drop out and go to CC. I figured since I was only going to be there for a quarter I should make the most of it, and ended up biting off more than I could chew, and that combined with the stress of adjusting and the aforementioned financial hardship left me with a 2.4 GPA for that quarter.

I've been doing decently in CC, and adjusting for differences in quarter vs semester units I'll have a 3.3 for fall transfer deadlines (UCs) and hopefully a 3.5 for spring transfer deadlines.

So my question is, even though there's a clear upward trend, will it just look like CC is easier, and therefore I got better grades? And that I wouldn't be able to handle the rigor of a "real" college that isn't a CC? The classes themselves that I've taken at CC aren't "slacker" classes, like calculus and differential equations, but I'm worried that it will still count against me.

Also if anyone wants to help me out on my odds I'd be grateful as well, besides my GPA I have some work experience, decent extracurriculars and leadership positions, and I can get at least one decent rec letter. My high school GPA was around a 3.4 and I have a 2250 SAT with 4s and 5s on seven AP tests. Assuming a well-written essay, how are my chances at UCLA, Berkeley, USC or NYU as a comp sci major? I know even with a 3.5 it's a long shot, sigh...

Anyway, thanks for any help!

(Oh and if someone can let me know if college calculate your GPA with weighted differences for quarter vs. semester grades, or if they just take each grade at face value, I would appreciate that as well.)

Great, that’s what I thought. (: Thank you.
