Will Toefl speaking 20 hurt my chance?

Hi, it’s my first post in the forum.

I want to apply to Upenn, JHU, Duke, and I got 2190 in SAT (R690, M800, W700)
and 104 in Toefl(R/L/W 28 and S20). The speaking part is obviously low since I’m not really good at it.
So should I retake Toefl? And can I submit my score it I take the test in January?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

I’m not an international applicant (or non-native English-speaker), so I’m not too familiar with the TOEFL, but I’d recommend taking it again if you think you can significantly improve your speaking score as most universities want to ensure you’ll be able to communicate effectively with professors and peers on their campus.

Did you check the colleges’ requirements for the TOEFL? A 104 should be enough for every college, but they might want certain subscores (e.g. at least a 24 in every section). If you meet that requirement, don’t take it again, as a better TOEFL doesn’t increase your admission chances at all. Also, a SAT I CR score of 690 could be (and probably is) high enough for them to see that your familiar with the english language, so you might not have to send the TOEFL score at all. Don’t waste another 250 $
