I am a prospective student (will be a senior this year), and I plan on applying to the School of Nursing. I am currently dually enrolled in both high school and college as an "early college" student. Early College is simply a better, revised form of the traditional dual enrollment. During my junior year and senior year, I take some classes at the high school, and the rest at the accredited community college. Will these dual enrollment credits transfer to the University? What if the courses were also used to meet graduation requirements and appear on my high school transcript? I have NOT taken any AP courses, but do they accept AP credit? Just wondering. Remember, these dual enrollment courses are taught on the campus (or online sometimes), classes are of mostly college students, and they are taught by faculty members (who often times hold a PhD in their field--more often than not). I know some schools have a bigger issue with this if the courses were taught in the high school, but that does not apply in my case. I know many schools (especially private) determine this transfer credit based on case by case evaluation. Please share any personal experiences you have had with this. Thanks

Google UVA transfer credit analyzer, you can check if your specific courses have transferred before.
I did an unofficial duel enrollment (night classes) and they all transferred.

Yes! My son took a couple dual enrollment courses and they both transfered. His DE multivariable also knocked off one of his requirements. Once accepted, you just have the final transcript from the college sent. It takes a few weeks for UVa to process it once they get the transcript from the college. It seems that new students sometimes forget to have the DE transcript from the college sent, and you don’t get the credit accepted at UVa unless it’s sent (just an fyi for any 1st years who read this!).

Thanks for the info :). Do you know if those DE classes that he earned credit for were on his hs transcript?

I don’t know about UVa. For other colleges, the acceptance of dual enrollment credits varies greatly. Many selective colleges (including some selective public colleges) will not approve dual enrollment credit for a class taken inside a high school building. In some states, most public colleges will accept dual enrollment classes in any case, particularly if they have an agreement with the community college that sponsored the class. Therefore, some colleges may accept dual enrollment from an in-state community college, but not an out of state one.

Jkiwmom is correct. Even if the DE courses show up on a high school transcript a college will not acknowledge those credits unless an official transcript is sent directly from the college the course was taken at to the matriculating college the student is currently enrolled.

I see what you are saying, charlies. Son’s DE was from Northern VA Community College which I believe already has a state agreement in place. But his Multi class was held at the HS.

OP, yes, the classes were on his HS transcript as well as the CC transcript. You still have to send a transcript from both your HS and the CC, and then UVA will make a decision. That decision will show up in your SIS transcript in a few weeks. It took some time to process it. Often you can do the cc transcript request online, so you can probably do it this weekend. hope it works out for you too.
