Will withdrawing from a class affect my Bright Futures renewal?

I decided that I want to switch majors and I'm currently taking a Chemistry class that is pretty difficult and does not apply to my new major. If it gets to the point where I may fail the class would I be able to withdraw from the class without losing bright futures?

Last semester I got a D in a Math class that was paid for by bright futures and my GPA is a 3.2.

On the bright futures website under dropping and withdrawing it says:

"A student should contact his/her postsecondary institution's financial aid office regarding its policy on withdrawal and how that policy may affect the scholarship. If a student drops or withdraws hours that were disbursed in a Bright Futures award, he/she will be responsible for reimbursing the postsecondary institution for the cost of course(s) dropped or withdrawn. Non-refunded hours may affect the student's renewal eligibility."

Does the last sentence mean that if I don't pay for the class that it may affect my renewal eligibility or that it will affect it no matter what?

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

Edit: Also, I'm taking 13 credit hours this semester and this class is worth 4.

Check with your FA department before you drop any classes. Some grants and scholarships can be affected when you drop a class. The FA office will give you more accurate information than we can. Best to ask them rather than make a decision based on the advice of people who are not the ones who will take away or give you aid.

Thanks, why didn’t I think of that?

twister, also make sure to ask them about the implications for any other aid you’re receiving since dropping the class will mean you’re no longer a full-time student. You might be better off finding a tutor and sticking it out.
