@allny, have you heard yet??

NewJerseyMom, we know any decision that is not an admission offer can be disappointing and there’s little we can do to lessen that sting but a waitlist offer is a fairly positive decision, especially in a pool as selective as ours. Our Admit It! Blog tomorrow will provide more detail but we do hope students on the waitlist understand how strong we felt their credentials were.

@ lepage nope I had an email just as the posts started coming but it was something else I was so nervous

what e-mail address are the decisions being sent from? I applied ED and was deferred, and I remember that last time the address was a jumble of letters - not something like W&M Admissions - so it went straight to my junk mail. Just wondering if this might happen again. Thanks

W&M admission: is there anything a waitlisted student can do to increase chances of acceptance? (send more grades, further awards won…)
Thank you

rebsrebs, emails are being sent to the email you provided in your Common App so if you applied ED, this email will come to the same email address and could very well land in spam. The sender’s name varies based on email server used but it will include “undergradadmission@wm.edu” somewhere in the sender’s handle.

Jrk, should we be able to admit students from the waitlist, we have all of the material we need upon which to make those decisions. There is nothing one can do to “increase his/her chances” of admission. If, come May 1, you still bleed green and gold, you can then send any new information to W&M along with a short statement of continued interest but we encourage you to wait and conclude your individual college search process before doing that because chances are, your feelings might change as April progresses and decisions aren’t at the forefront of your mind. Our Admit It! Blog tomorrow as well as the waitlist FAQs provide more details (again, you can private message us if those links aren’t working for you).

Daughter was wait-listed (in last few days - 3 rejections, 3 waitlists)
MA - female
1990 SAT
4.41 W GPA, 3.97 UW GPA, valedictorian

What an eye opening experience these last few days has been.

For those who really want to go to W&M - there is a back door - it is called Richard Bland College. Richard Bland College is a 2 year college in Petersburg, VA and has a matriculation agreement with W&M. If you earn a 2 year degree from Richard Bland with at least a 3.0 GPA - W&M has to accept you no questions asked. Sorry for this who did not get in - maybe this is an option for you

My son is in!

Anne62, we’re sorry for the anxiety brought on by the recent release of decisions and sorry that we couldn’t provide the silver lining you and your D were no doubt looking for. We cross our fingers that your D will hear better news from other institutions soon. A waitlist offer indicates that we did view your D’s application as having great strength and no doubt another college/university will recognize those strengths and offer her a place in the incoming class.

has everything been sent out? I haven’t gotten anything yet

Short, humorous essay relating cars and people’s personalities

I’m so excited! Great news after being rejected from Georgetown earlier today. Probably will select between BC and W&M. Good luck to everyone else!

Well, D was rejected, but took it so well. She hadn’t checked out College P**wler previously, but this past weekend realized from something she read that maybe the “fit” at W&M wouldn’t be best for her anyway - nothing to do with academics, but social stuff. She recalled what W&M Admissions had said so many times about finding the right fit, and took it to heart. What a roller coaster, glad it’s over, and really appreciate all the advice to be found here!

Accepted!!!
Female OOS (NY)
Caucasian
ACT-34
SAT-2140 / 770Lit, 730USH
96W GPA
Lots of extracurriculars and decent essays ahhhh so excited!

NewJerseyMom–believe me, it hurts for an in-state female applying regular decision as well. D was wait-listed too. My mother has a saying: “sometimes you don’t get what you want, and things end up better in the end”. Here’s hoping.

I haven’t checked my email yet…I don’t think I can even bring myself to do it!

Son was accepted.
SAT 2260
ACT 33
Humerous essay as well that really showed his personality and was my favorite
OOS, white male

I have to say that I loved the acceptance email and I hope no one posts it here letting those accepted enjoy it for themselves.
