I got my letter today. I was rejected :( I guess W&M takes a less "holistic" approach than I thought .. but oh well :/

Are you in-state or out of state?

same here..i'm in-state. Sorta expected it since I didn't bother doing the "optional" essay haha.

Oh well, the Naval Academy isn't a bad plan B...

I am out of state and also did not do the optional essay... but it's because I knew being OOS I had a VERY slim chance of getting in. Oh well... I just want the rejection letter to hurry up and come so I can move on. Congrats on the Naval Academy! I have a friend from San Diego who just got in.

I'm instate. I only have a 1950, but I thought my grades (got straight A's first semester) and extracurriculars/rec letters would make up for it. I'm also a very good writer.
I guess not :(

just got rejected and pretty shocked. Everything matched up perfectly, and my counsellor told me it was a match and was sure I’d get in…then again she’s been wrong for soooooooo many people this yr from what i hear. Ugh.

This is a killer year, so don’t feel bad. Public schools like W and M are getting record numbers of applicants for financial reasons. Your graduating class is the largest in history (3.33 million). And there are more foreigners attending U.S. schools than ever before. I hope you feel proud of yourself for trying!

I haven’t recieved my letter yet–OOS student. I just want to get the thing in the mail; however, from what I’ve been hearing… now I am EXTREMELY nervous :S

Uh oh…I haven’t recieved any mail from William and Mary, for the good or bad. I expect to be rejected because its so competitive applying from out of state but I would just like to know.

have there been precedents in which rejected applicants appealed and were accepted?

My daughter is a freshman. Last year W&M kept her on pins and needles looooonnng after she heard from all 8 other schools. My recollection was the letter came right about this time last year. (And it was a letter – very old fashioned – no email or online notification.) Fortunately the answer was yes.

Good luck. Hope you hear soon

Son also still waiting to hear from W & M. Called admissions office twice but they seem unwilling to give information on the phone or send an e-mail. Not sure what is taking so long but he will check mail again on Monday. He’s still on pins and needles.

pymen, has your son checked to see if guidance has heard anything. Two years ago a good friend of ours had a mix up with mailing addresses and he never got his letter. He found out because his counselor stopped him in the hall and congratulated him! Later it was discovered there was a mix up between parents business address and home address. Good luck!
