William Jewell College

Not sure if I should post this here or in the William Jewell forum, but that forum hasn't had a reply since 2013. Anyone have any input on what the student/college life us like here? We toured it yesterday and were very impressed with it and the nursing program, but it is such a small college compared to the other state universities we've visited. I am wondering if kids all leave on the weekends or if there is enough activities on campus to give my daughter the full "away college" experience she desires. We are KC residents, but this college 40 minutes from our home wasn't really on our radar until we looked into it for nursing. My daughter really liked it, new buildings on campus are beautiful and the academics were very impressive.

I am an international student recently applied to it. So what more did you learn about it?
How is it?

@didi254‌. Yes, i recently talked with a neighbor whose daughter attends. She has loved the small class size with 11-15 students in class, she has studied abroad, has had an internship in New York, was involved in lots of campus activities and has absolutely loved her college years there. She said many students stick around campus on weekends as they are from out of state.

@adtm1082‌ thank you so much

Hello! I am a student at William Jewell College. If you have any questions about it, please don’t hesitate to send me a message; I love answering questions!

For the most part, Jewell is a small school, which creates this amazing family-vibe. After a month or so on campus, you know at least of, if not directly, three quarters of the other students, as well as the faculty. They might not even be in your department! I, myself, am a music major, but I’ve taken several religious studies courses and on occasion have coffee with those professors.
The faculty overall is just incredible. They really go above and beyond; and I can say that, because this is my third college. I’ve never met professors who care as much about their students or curriculum as the professors at Jewell. Chances are, if you need help with something, you’ll end up meeting them at @TheBeak, one of our campus coffee shops.
The technology on campus was recently updated with the coming of the new Prior Learning Center. Every student is now given an iPad Air for the duration of their Jewell years, and gets to keep it upon graduation. (Don’t worry about it being too old; your iPad will be replaced with a newer model your junior year!) @TheBeak has several screens to advertise upcoming campus events, display the WJC Twitter feed and show photos of past events and community outings taken by our campus photographer.
Speaking of the community, we are constantly doing things with alum and off-campus charities! Especially our Greek students (yes, I’m one of those, too; feel free to email me questions about that, as well!). One of our most well known community events is the “Hanging of the Green”, when the campus is finally lit up for the first time in preparation for the holiday season. The Christmas celebration itself is a couple of weeks later, but it always starts with caroling (which may have a surprise at the end!) in Gano, one of our stages, and leads to a reception just around the corner, complete with cider. Santa Claus also comes to visit, which is always a hit with locals, as they can bring their children.
If you can’t tell, I really, truly love my college. There is no place like Jewell; it is simply a magical experience. The other two colleges I attended were good, but there is one phrase that fits Jewell perfectly that I cannot say about any other institution:
There is no place like home.
Because, in all honestly? Jewell isn’t just a school. It’s a home, and Jewell family lasts forever.
