I would love to get feedback from anyone who has attended the William & Mary Pre-Collegiate Summer Program in Early American History in regard to the difficulty of the course. Given that it is also a 4 credit hour W&M class, HIST 216, how hard is it to finish up with an A or worst case B in the class? From the course information my understanding is that the grade is comprised of participation in discussion and journal entries? If anyone can speak to difficulty and the grade’s composition I certainly appreciate it. Thanks!
Link to a Fall 2009 course syllabus. I am sure there is some variation between this and the summer program. The professor addresses grading within. I still hope some that have attended will stumble across this thread and comment.
I’m a current student at W&M, and although I haven’t done the pre-colegiate summer program before, if it is taught by Professor Whittenburg (as @MrMicawber 's post seems to suggest), take him! Everyone that has taken a course with him loves him and my friend who had him this semester had a similar course set up. It can be alot of work, but definitely worth it. He’s highly rated on ratemyprofessor.com and is ranked as one of the best professors in the nation.

Thank you for the reply. This is very helpful. It seems like a great opportunity for a kid with a passion for history.
No problem, glad I could help. From one of the reviews on the site, it looks like he has taught the summer course before and many people have taken similar courses with him in the past. He’s pretty well regarded in his specialty of colonial history, so hopefully he’ll be able to teach the course this year. Good luck!
