I want to study politics and global/international affairs, and my top choices are William & Mary and Georgia Tech. Tech is the in-state school, so it is a fraction of the cost of William & Mary, but I like William & Mary better. I cannot decide whether it would be worth it to pay out-of-state to William & Mary when I have such a good option at home. Which school would be a better fit for someone looking to study liberal arts that also enjoys hanging out/going out?

My dad went to Ga Tech and my husband, myself and many other family members all went to W&M- so I think I have a grasp on the differences. Which makes me wonder why you are looking at those two! Ga Tech is a WONDERFUL school- if you want to be an engineer and study in a large city. W&M is a WONDERFUL school- if you want to be at a liberal arts college in a small town. College should really be about finding what fits you. Have you spent time on both campuses? Looked at the IA programs at both?

My daughter just made a similar decision but hers was between Georgia Tech and UVA. Like your two choices, they are completely different schools but she loves them both. Last night when she made her deposit to UVA she said, “Everyone said that when you choose the right school, you just know. I feel like this is the right place for me and it feels great!” Have you been able to visit each school enough so that you will be comfortable spending the next four years there? We are VA residents and she is also considering grad school so the in-state tuition makes that more of a possibility. Is grad school in your future? If so, then you may want to talk to your parents about that situation. Also, you can research both schools and find out the starting salaries for graduates in your major. In the end, if your parents can afford it, try to think what school is the best fit for you. It sounds like your heart is already at W&M. Best of luck.

W&M is your school if you can afford it.
