Best wishes to you and your son through this exciting process! D21 is blessed to join Williams 2025. Wesleyan U is largest of the NESCAC Liberal arts colleges and Tufts is larger, but considered a blend of LAC and Research U. You are fortunate to have so many good options in the area.

D18 went through RD and is at Amherst. Wesleyan was hard for her to turn down since she loved theatre and singing, but funny enough that Amherst is known as the Singing College. Your son will find a place in the schools he applied to. I know you didnā€™t mention the others your S applied to, but itā€™s not a problem mentioning them and I donā€™t think they are going to have time to monitor if applications are increasing there like everywhere else. Hoping that his dozen apps will turn into a few acceptances-one being Williams! :slightly_smiling_face:

@PerformingDude I LOVE IT!!! Sounds like an amazing application and I agree with @TennisParent that it is exactly the kind of thing that would catch the eye (and ear) of an admissions team.

@purplemama Congrats to your D21. My S has applied to Williams as it is his #1 choice (has been his top pick since he was a sophomore in high school). He also applied to Colby, Colgate, Connecticut College, Dartmouth (his big reach school), Skidmore, Trinity (Hartford) and Vassar (relative of two alums who wrote him a letter for admissions). He had four safety schools too - he has already been accepted to two of those, we are still waiting on the other two. Not sure what his chances are at any of the schools - he didnā€™t submit SAT or ACT because they werenā€™t offered near us for health and safety reasons. His high school had limited AP classes but he did have 16 Honors classes with Aā€™s (one B+). He was involved with a sports team, drama, band and did hundreds of hours of volunteer work at three different community organizations. Iā€™m hopeful that at least he makes it onto a waitlist for one of his dream schools but in such a competitive environment in such a tough year with so many applicants - I worry he will be disappointed. All we can do now is wait.

Thank you!

I think your son will do great. With an impressive track record and plethora of involvements, I am sure that he will get into at least a couple of his top schools! I am also applying to Williams (clearly), Colby, Conn, and Vassar, so maybe Iā€™ll meet your son on campus!

@PerformingDude Best of luck for you to get into all of your schools - may the toughest decision you have to make be which one of those great schools to attend because they all accept you.

Williams just announced Spring semester will start as planned and that Spring commencement will be in person.

Williams and several schools have become test optional until fall of 2023; will be interesting to see if these selective schools decide to become fully test optional. Did anyone applying this year decide to not submit test scores?

Definitely will be interesting to see. Schools clearly are getting a lot more apps for becoming TO, which makes perfect sense. If some highly acclaimed colleges/universities like Williams become permanently TO (which of course is TBD), there might be pressure on the others (who want to remain in the who-can-have-the-most-ridiculously-low-acceptance-rate game) to drop the requirement as well. I applied to all my schools with my SAT, although definitely on the lower side for high reach schools like Williams (1440).

FWIW my D got into Williams last year w/slightly higher SATs. She was an arts applicant like you. Iā€™m rooting for you!

1440 is a very respectable score and also should not be an issue in a TO year. I think it makes more sense for current high school students to decide to not take any SAT or ACT tests and apply TO. For students who have already taken the tests, you should report your scores.

SAT 1440 is about ACT 32.

One of my neighborsā€™ boy made ACT 33 at 7th grade through Duke Tip. Is that crazy?

Are you sure youā€™re on the right thread?

Both are very respectable scores, also, given COVID, the focus on the difference in a few percentage points should be less relevant. Whether you are in the 95 vs 98% should not be a deal breaker, given the greater scepticism about testing as predicter.

A 33 ACT is a very good score! Some people (not including myself) are naturally gifted at standardized tests, which will serve them well for college apps, which sounds like that boy. This thread probably isnā€™t the right place to be right now though, considering he is in 7th grade and not able to apply to Williams for 4 years. Best of luck to him as he applies, and remind him that scores arenā€™t even close to everything that factors into an admissions decision

The mere purpose of mentioning that boy is trying to remind ourselves that there are many applicants with really high scores. We need to push ourselves/our kids to try even harder to improve. :grinning:

@PerformingDude My fingers are double crossed for you to be admitted. You seem to be a respectful, super cool person and so upbeat! I hope that you will be a 2025 Eph with my son this fall! I will be rooting for you!
