Also, keep in mind that there are likely to be some people taking a gap year THIS year (though probably not as many as last year), which might help mitigate the amount of taken slots from last year’s admitted students who deferred their acceptance!
@mamasaurusrex In your scenario, the current FY class would be 400 (100 less than usual), which is why I said schools will be shooting for the total number. Perhaps I should have clarified that I meant the school’s total enrollment of all classes. Colleges that typically have 2000 students don’t want 1900 no matter how you slice it.
That assumes the school didn’t pull from the waitlist last year to fill spots for students who deferred. If 500 accepted, 100 of those deferred…did they take another 100 to fill their spots for this past year?
Good point, although I’d say they likely didn’t admit many WL to fill gap voids. The only response I’ve actually heard a school give regarding the increase in gap year students is that they will take less transfer students. Has anyone actually seen a school announce that they are taking less FY students?
Why would they have kept seats open this past year? as a business, that wouldn’t make sense, and there was much anecdotal commentary about lots of movement off waitlists.
I think they will admit a larger pool this year as was the case last year, it will not effect selectivity. The student population has ranged around 2,200 for several years, there is plenty of bed capacity to go higher if necessary. During COVID, they were able to house all students in singles. There is plenty of dorm capacity. Also, the number of classes could be increased with additional sections as necessary to accommodate a bulge year without impacting the 7 to 1 student to faculty ratio.
Does anyone know of any early indicators of an acceptance/rejection from previous years?
People being asked for financial documents i.e. parental tax forms from Williams seems to be not a bad sign from what I’ve seen?
Hey again! I think the only true indicator is the early write (which I am not sure Williams is doing this year), which basically is an early guaranteed acceptance!
Below is Amherst acceptance letter just sent out…think class of 24 had 10,600 applicants so #s up huge for 25 which is similarly seen at other top schools. Must be hard to handicap yield/class size in admissions this yr as so many kids are fishing. Be curious where Williams #s roll in.
Congratulations! You have been admitted to the Amherst College Class of 2025!
This year Amherst received a record total of more than 13,950 applications for an incoming class of 473 students. Our applicants are impressively accomplished, but some are so extraordinary that we are notifying them early of their admission. You are among that select group of fewer than 200 students. Your outstanding accomplishments in high school, the enthusiastic support conveyed in recommendations submitted on your behalf, and the qualities of mind and spirit captured in your essays have distinguished you among a group of extremely talented applicants from around the world. I am confident that you will make a significant contribution to our diverse intellectual community. On behalf of the faculty, students and staff of Amherst College, I congratulate you!
The ED acceptance letter D21 received from Williams mentioned she was joining a class of 550, which sounds like a typical year. I guess we will know for sure next Fall when the numbers are all firmed up.
Good luck everyone! Is decision date on or by April 1?
The admissions website will announce the exact decision date 3 to 4 weeks out. I believe early writes go out around the same time.
So that should mean we’ll probably receive and email about the official date soon.
Actually, I think the posting on the website occurs a few weeks before. Then an email is sent to you the day of the release itself.
Update on NESCAC spring sports:
Hello everyone
An email was sent to my counselor on Feb 24 stating that the decisions will be officially out on the evening of Thursday March 25.
It is on the 25th. An email was sent to my counselor.
Okay hopefully they send out an email to students soon for confirmation!
Yup
Good luck
And may we all hear good news soon
No posting on the admissions website yet to make it official.
