are a lot of people from your high schools applying? I’m the only one to apply in a couple years at mine, no one even knows what Williams is.
@graciec1999 I am sure the Williams admissions office has no bias against the Midwest at all(and I am from the Midwest too). If anything they are probably looking to increase the make up of the student body outside of the Northeast. WRT ED deferrals to RD admits, my understanding is that unfortunately most deferred applicants are eventually denied(and this is generally the case at other schools too). My recommendation is to try to somehow reiterate your interest in Williams with some relevant new material that was not in your original ED application. Good luck!
The ED 2022 deferred thread has some good ideas on what to send to really communicate that Williams is the school for you. There are applicants that are accepted in the regular round that were deferred, especially if there is a meaningful update in terms of grades, awards or other noteworthy accomplishments.
I attended WOW at Williams in September. Does anyone know when Williams starts sending out likelies/early writes? Last year it seemed to be the first 2 weeks of March.
That sounds about right, with the increased application volume over the last few years, however, it may take a little longer. Congratulations on getting into WOW, that is quite an accomplishment. Are you interested in econ, political science, or STEM?
@TennisParent thank you for the reply! I’m interested in political science and African studies
Our son received early write notice on 3/10/17.
Thank you, this information is helpful, in addition to the early write notice, did you receive a phone call or were you contacted by other students/alums?
Our son got an email that his admission determination had been made and was available on the portal. Later on he was contacted by departments in which he’d expressed an interest.
@MisterMicawber what major did he apply as?
That’s great to hear, would also recommend attending previews and setting up meetings with the professors/ departments of interest, can be very informative and part of the learning process regardless of where you end up. Also, will lead to stronger relationships with faculty which is key to the Williams experience.
@TennisParent I believe the OP is referring to their child last year.
are early writes more difficult to get than likely letters?
@MaybeHarvard2022
I also attended WOW in September.
Small world :bz
Is there a difference between an early write notice and LL?
@Volunteerism haha idk if i met you! and Williams only sends early writes, not LLs
@Lemonade22
@MaybeHarvard2022
It’s very “likely” that we did meet.
Thx
@Volunteerism sorry if i wasn’t clear. An early write is an official offer of admission while an LL is a letter stating you should expect to be admitted come decision day. Not too much of a difference really. Williams also sends financial aid packages with early writes.
@MaybeHarvard2022
Thx. Are early write sent via email or snail mail?
@Volunteerism email
@MaybeHarvard2022
Thanks!
