So I just got an email from Williams College for a program called Windows on Williams (WOW). It says I was selected from "an extremely selective pool of rising seniors." I had never heard of this school, so I went on USNWR and checked the rankings for best liberal arts colleges and saw that Williams is ranked one. Does anyone know anything about this school or about the WOW program? The email says they would pay for my travel to and from campus, accomodations and meals, so if its worth it I'll definitely look into it.

I was invited to apply and was accepted to the program. I wasn't able to go, but it's a great program, and from what I've heard, those who get into it have a much higher acceptance rate for admission to the college.

My son and I visited Williams last year when he was going through his college search process. We live on the west coast, and I'd never heard of Williams either before that, but it's a very presitigious school, very beautiful, small, in an incredibly beautiful remote part of western MA.

If you would even begin to consider a small, rurally located liberal arts college --over, say, a big urban university -- then you should apply for WOW, I think. If you know for certain that small and rural is not what you're looking for, then it's probably not worth the trouble.

My son didn't end up applying because he applied ED elsewhere and got in, but if he'd ended up submitting RD apps, then Williams would have been high on his list.

Well, I just got the email like half an hour ago, and it says the application is due by Aug. 15. The actual program has dates in September and in October.

Williams is an excellent school. I don't know anything about WOW, but it was my second favorite on the list of colleges I was admitted to. It's definitely worth visiting the campus, though - it's gorgeous, but I found it a bit too isolated.

^^ it can be. In the past, colleges contacted students who participated in the College Prep Scholarship, but this year QuestBridge is officially facilitating that. However, it appears that some colleges are contacting more students who did not officially receive the campus visit award.

jay, Williams is a top rated small liberal arts college. It is highly regarded by those in the know (academics, graduate schools, most Fortune 500 companies, arts foundations) to be one of the most academically rigorous and intellectually focused colleges in America, even though most people have never heard of it.

Sciences, arts and social studies are all excellent and the facilities are all extremely well funded. The extremely talented faculty are all dedicated teachers, even though they may be experts in their fields, and the personal attention is second to none.

It is located in a pristine mountain village that gets pretty severe winter weather. This isolated location isn't to everyone's taste, but those who like it, love it for this very insularity. The campus offers a tight knit vibrant community and there's lots to do.

I'd strongly suggest that you take advantage of the college's offer. Although it's not a guarantee of admissions, the fact that you were solicited means that you are a person of interest. Attending a college like Williams -- assuming of course that it's a good fit for you personally -- is a wonderful opportunity.

dreem - I applied for the College Prep Scholarship, but I was not awarded it
=[

astrophysics_07- The email said that I had been "selected," and the application was attached to the email. I tried googling it, but I didn't find anything. So maybe one does have to be invited, but I'm not sure.....

Williams is a fabulous school that is completely undergraduate-focused and in an adorable New England town. Personally, I prefer the big-city schools, but it's a really unique place. My friend's older sister goes there and she absolutely adores it.

Hi, I also received this letter from Williams, and was also award the CPS from questbridge, including the nomination for college visits. However, does this qualify as this award, and if so, is Williams the only school that I can visit under this program, or is it possible that other schools will contact me as well?
