Greetings, everyone! Recently, I was quite excited by the news that I was accepted to attend Windows On Williams 2013! I'm curious is anyone else has been accepted, and what time they expect to be traveling (I signed up for the Oct. 10-12th date). I'd like to hear the thoughts and opinions of those who attended previous WOW programs as well. Also, I'm just slightly curious about whether this will help my inevitable application to Williams. It's one of my dream schools, and I really think this was an excellent first step in my path!

Thanks for any information! I still can't believe I was accepted!

I wasn’t accepted but they said i was a competitive applicant but my parents had too much education and offered free college counselling.

Hm, that’s unfortunate to hear. I suppose the outcome is good either way: you’ve shown your interest in the college, and the college has at least reviewed your profile.

I wonder if my essay played an imperative role in my acceptance, or if other factors like family history and income, regional area, and ethnicity (I’m Hispanic and African American) swayed them. My high school transcript certainly isn’t laudable: I have a relatively sub-par GPA (3.1 GPA, though I do not know whether that is my weighted or unweighted GPA) and only rank at borderline top 15%. I know a vast majority of students at Williams College have better GPAs and are consistently from the top 10% of their high school, so I’m certainly dumbfounded they accepted me for this trip.

It’s probably because of your ethnicity and financial background, for preference is given to those two criteria.

ThursdaysSyme, my D is attending the October weekend and is really excited about it as well. She is Caucasian with Native American great grandparents although I’m sure that’s not the diversity she represents. In the past, Admissions reps have told the WOW group that 70% -80% of WOW attendees will be accepted to Williams during early and regular decision admissions. I’m sure they will give you lots of information during the program. Congratulations and enjoy - it is supposed to be a really amazing and also really fun time according to past WOW students :)

I’m going to the September program!

I was accepted to Williams. I’ll be going in September though… ):

I’m Hispanic, but I am not first generation.

Ah, thanks for the information regarding WOW, HoneyBee63! Those are some pretty encouraging statistics for such a selective school! It’ll be a blast meeting your daughter and many others in this amazing trip! I just received my electronic ticket in my email, so I think you can understand why I’m just so giddy right now!

Shame we won’t be going at the same time, Rivstein and Iuvenilis :(. It’s great you guys got accepted though, so if it doesn’t bother you, tell me how it went! No doubt I’ll be greatly informative!

I will definitely tell you how it went! I’m pretty excited!

The September dates are fast approaching! I’m almost reconsidering my registering for the October dates; now I have to wait longer! Enjoy the trip, WOW acceptees!

D is attending October WOW because this month overlapped with the Bowdoin fly-in, which starts tomorrow and goes for four days! But the Williams Admissions Office has been just amazing. I can’t wait to hear how it goes for the September group…please post your impressions when you get back!

Don’t trust Rivstein, I met him at the MIT WISE fly-in and he is not a cool guy that is not afraid of anything…
Well anywho, I am going to the October WOW if any of you want to PM me or something of that sort :D…

I like to think I’m a pretty cool guy. Eh goes on October WOW and doesn’t afraid of anything. But internet references aside, nice to meet you Cano! I’m looking forward to getting you meet you and others in the coming week!

So, any comments from previous attendees? Warts and all, I’d like to know!

Anyone attend the 9/28 weekend WOW event? How was it? How did you guys travel? How was your host? The food? Your host? Sleeping accommodations?

ThursdaysSyme, I am glad you got my reference! I will see you soon, :U once I get across the country from LA. XD

Do we need sleeping bags?

We’re wondering that too. Try emailing your host or asking on the FB group…

My host never answered…

My D’s host said yes to bring a sleeping bag and pillow!

Dd received an email from Twink Burns at the beginning of the week! It details all that one needs to bring…please bring warm clothes. It’s quite chilly for those of you who are heading this way from warmer climates. Relatives are visiting from North Carolina and they say it’s cold here in the northeast. Lol it feels just fine to us though.

Safe travels and enjoy WOW!
