I would LOVE to go to Williams and I really do understand it's a reach but please chance me based on my stats + double legacy and sister + ED

I am a caucasian high school female in NC at a competitive private school.

3.69 UW GPA but will graduate with 8 AP courses (4 junior year, 4 senior year: 4 is the most APs or honors courses a student can take in a semester)

SAT I: 2020 (720 W, 670 R, 630 M)
SAT II: 700 US History, 650 French

ECs: YMCA Camp Counselor/trainee program for 6 summers; President of Go Green Club; Varsity Volleyball 3 years and Club Volleyball for 4 years until junior year; MUN 4 years, president now; Student Ambassadors Club President; Special Olympics Volunteer; Soccer Coach; CIEE South Korea Scholarship Program Participant; Diverbo Volunteer in Spain

Essay was especially strong--talked about the atmosphere of the DMZ in North Korea

Recommendations from History teacher and English teacher should both be very positive and show me as a person very well; good relationship with college counselor so that should be pretty good too

chance me for: Williams ED (double legacy+sibling)

Your academics overall are below or around average for Williams; your ECs are impressive but not special in any way. Talking about the DMZ in North Korea doesn’t make your essays strong. Legacy helps a lot. I would say Williams is a Reach/High reach

Yes, I would agree with StanleyJuCu. You will have a decent chance when you write an essay about things that you actually experienced and significantly changed your life. You will have a good chance.

@iceman101 I actually went to the DMZ on a trip to South Korea and went into one of the UN peacekeeping rooms which formally split South and North Korea. So I actually got to step foot into North Korea. I also lived in Cyprus for half a year where I also experienced division from the Greek/Turkish side

While high test scores are very important, it is a liberal arts school. Personalize your essays as much as possible, and put forth some of your best effort! That said, I would consider you a high match low reach

Here’s the average accepted applicant’s stats from my high school.
Williams College
GPA:102.03
CR+M:1516
Avg SAT:2254
Combined/Super-scored SAT:2266
ACT:32

I’d call it a low reach to reach. Your test scores are pretty low for the school. Legacy will help a lot though…however, I’ve heard some horror stories about double/triple legacies, totally qualified, getting rejected ED. good luck. it’s just a waiting game from here on out.

Write good essays, as the others said and it would be a low reach.
I also hope that you are applying to other universities?
Good luck!
(Legacy will help you!)

Going to be very honest here; you are really fighting an uphill battle.

Legacy is not something that you can just use as a crutch. While it will help you, it certainly won’t get you in if you are not qualified. It’s probably not as important as your academic performance, which really hangs on the low side, seeing as your SAT is barely clutching the 25% range of admitted students and the average admitted GPA is in the 3.9s. While you have a good number of AP courses, so do most of the people admitted to these selective colleges.

Williams is a reach for everybody, but since you have a double legacy and are applying ED you definitely do have a shot. Good luck and I hope you get in!

Do you have similar stats to your sister? If so, I would think you would get in.

My interpretation: I think if your parents are particularly active alumni (they donate money yearly, etc) you would have a pretty great shot. Beyond that, it’s clearly a reach, but you’re in the mix. Applying ED definitely strengthened your application.

Other great LAC’S slightly easier to get into are Colby, Holy Cross, URichmond. Holy Cross(don’t have to be religious) has a great campus only 1 hour from Boston. Like Williams, Holy Cross has very good combination of academics/athletics. HC is a top25 LAC and kids like the school very much.

Williams- high match to low reach
your stats are pretty weak… but your legacy status will help you immensely. I’d say you have a really great chance, 'specially with ED
