I was accepted! Y’all were right, it went to spam. I think I’m gonna do the October dates.
Its what people were saying admission officers said last year, so I’m hoping they weren’t lying lol. @emcm1140
Accepted! Very surprised and very relieved.
I also heard, albeit thirdhand (an admitted student who went to WOW told my son who told me), that at last year’s WOW program, the WOW students were told by someone from the college that most WOW students end up being admitted. You could ask at this year’s orientation if that is true.
“Most” does not mean the same as 100%, however, so be sure to put together a great application!
If you were rejected from WOW, do not abandon hope of a Williams degree: you still might be accepted to Williams. Someone with whom I had been communicating on College Confidential had a child who did not make it into WOW but then was admitted to Williams in April.

Rejected but they gave me the fee waiver and phone call[/quote
Same for my daughter. I was pleasantly surprised since her minority status is that she’s half Asian. I wasn’t sure if that counted enough.
@nomoreinterviews Thanks! I’m planning on applying to a few more. Have fun at WOW!
@dla26 I’m Asian, and I’m a bit curious if that played a role, but I’m pleased with the fee waiver and phone call all the same!
D’oh! Messed up the quote marker. Just wanted to say that my daughter got the same result. I was pleasantly surprised since her minority status is that she’s half Asian. I wasn’t sure if that counted enough.
I wonder if anyone got rejected outright? My daughter said that only a small number of people who applied to WOW get the fee waiver and phone call - and that the acceptance rate among people who do the phone call is about 2x the normal acceptance rate. I’m thinking that’s kind of like an acceptance-minus.
Anyone doing the first session? PM me if so
Congrats to all!! They just posted the updated student profile which includes information on the Class of 2022, impressive stats, large percentage had a near perfect Math SAT score. So, as its get more competitive to be accepted, WOW is even more meaningful.
@dla26 i want to believe them but i feel like they didnt outrightly reject anyone and it was some sort of weird ‘consolation’
I was also denied and it was the only fly in program i applied to : )
@pandaboy123 - So far. It was the only fly in program you applied to so far. WOW had one of the earliest deadlines. There are lots more coming up. I’m still kind of new to CC, and one of my posts got deleted since I added a URL, so I’ll just say that you should google “diversity fly in programs 2018” and click on the first link to see more programs and their deadlines.
@dla26 thank you so much!!! i even only found out about WOW bc they sent me a lot of mail. I think ill apply to the one at Rice as well
Best of luck!
I just applied to the second round, can anyone that was accepted in the first round post their stats?
My URM daughter was outright denied. We have already visited the campus, and the email said we made too much money to be considered for WOW, but they recommend she apply for admission in the fall. Not sure what we’ll do. We love the school, but know they are actively searching for qualified students with financial need. Hope you all can take advantage of this experience in such a beautiful place.
@PepperJo- but they also accept many URMs without financial need, or with some need but less need than would require a free trip to Williamstown from wherever you are. No reason not to apply, if the reason she was denied WOW was explicitly financial and not reflecting other aspects of her application.
@drprocrastinator sure, 35 ACT, 1520 SAT (730 R, 790 M) 22/24 essay, cumulative weighted GPA 4.388 (freshman year of high school not too hot), straight A’s (a couple A-'s) with 1 AP in 10th grade and straight A’s (all A’s) with 5 APs junior year. Hooks: single parent, income below 60k and URM
