All the upgrades and everything. Wow. Microsoft has been busy.

i heard there are already numerous viruses for it .... (atleast for the enterprise edition that was already out)

plus you can already land pirated copies of em in china. lol

It's out for several monthes in I won't tell what :) I never had a chance to install though, I hope to be in happy land of Gentoo in month or two.

I had it about a year ago.

It sucks.

Vista does have some interesting features. Version 3.0 of the .NET framework is intriguing, and I'm interested to see if the new search feature will work as well as Spotlight.

It's also going to be fun to watch how well the Trustworthy Computing Initiative works out...

Nothing exciting for me..it's just xp with a skin.

Right now, the only reason to "upgrade" to vista seems to be for DX10

I'll stick with my MBP

Meh. It's alright. I have it on my computer right now as a dual boot, but I much prefer Linux. You want a REAL operating system with graphics, stability, the works?

Go to YouTube and search for "linux+xgl+beryl" and watch a few videos. That is what I have ;). It is VERY VERY nice (makes OSX and Vista look like kids toys).

Also, it still uses far less resources than Vista and OSX.

In fact, here are some vids:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZD7QraljRfM

http://youtube.com/watch?v=m3wkelgDpAA

http://youtube.com/watch?v=rgZAzdOBt7E

does it actually run a lot of programs? like what you actually use the computer for?
games/processing and such?
cause it doesnt matter how stable it is, if you can't do anything on it...... or that its not compatable with other computers... then why....

It has been out if you wanted to get a pirated version of it. I think I'll stay away for it for a year or until it is absolutely necessary.

thats wat i thought

Were you talking to me Hansen? Sorry, I don't come on here much anymore.

Actually, every single game made for Windows (as well as DOS) I've bought I have been able to run on Linux. If you have source code, you can build executables and such customized for your computer. Also, there are plenty of ports, and all you need are the graphics/game-play file for gaming. Not to mention, there are "emulators" such as Wine (which don't really emulate architecture... just act as the Windows kernel as well as use dll files needed by some programs). I have had Office on my computer, Adobe Photoshop, various games (all DOOM games, Counterstrike, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc.), and other various software. So, no, my computer isn't useless or incompatible with other programs made for Windows.

oh.....
linux is just such a mystery for me

LOL. It was for me, too, until I picked up my first distro (Caldera) when I was 12. I had similar concerns of incompatibility and the "Mac Syndrome" (inability to find software for your computer), however, as I learned more and more I made my system less dependent on my Windows partition and started porting programs. You just have to use it and get used to it.

Now, I'll be one to admit it's not "point-and-click" easy, but it has definitely gotten easier for noobs to install and manage (given they have developed further knowledge and computer logic past using AIM, checking e-mail, etc. and instead doing things like installing and managing OSes at a novice level). However, once installed and up and running, it's as straight-forward as Windows and OS X and can be used by friends who need to check their email or the like who have never even seen a Linux box before.

Vista annoys me..... perhaps I just perfer XP

I'm very excited. My dad is getting a whole new computer in a few weeks, but I'll still have XP on mine. It looks kewl.

Yes, because it looks kewl :D lol.

I don't plan to get Vista. The only justification for me to get it would be for direct x 10.

lol tonight!! at 12 !

so let me ask this question, is it worth getting vista if my laptop isnt direct x 10 compatible? (is it possible to change a laptop graphics card in the future to make it dx10 compatible?)

Changing laptop graphics card is tough. It's impossible for most laptops. I'm stuck with the one I have. Mine isn't DX10 compatible either. I'm not a big gamer anyway, so.....

And I'm getting Vista for free from Dell (I bought a Dell laptop recently and vista wasn't out).
