no housing for winter 2008

this is from the winter 2008 FAQ
Q: Will I be able to live in on-campus housing?
A: Unfortunately, students admitted for Winter Quarter 2008 will not have a guarantee of campus housing due to the high demand and 100% occupancy expected for the Fall 2007. We strongly encourage you to look at the UC San Diego Off-Campus Housing Office Web site.

HelpMe:

Sometimes Winter admits get bumped up to regular admission depending on the yield UCSD has. Maybe you'll get lucky with this and also be able to get housing. Good luck.

How do you know if you got accepted to Winter 2008 or Fall 2007?

So if you're accepted to Winter 2008 term, are you really 'accepted'?

yes you are.
You've been accepted to the school and are allowed to sign up, take courses, and if you continue those studies will be awarded a degree from there.

The only thing is that you'll end up spending your 1st of 3 quarters freshman year still at home. If you really want to attend the school, it's hardly a setback.

rebenbacher are u planning to attend winter quarter?

im conflicted between UCSD and UCD/UCI(if i get in)
im worried about the social life.. since i wont be dorming. I'm just worried i wont get to meet pepo and make friends. I feel like ill be missing out

why aren't you dorming? that hella sucks.

You probably will be able to sign up for housing your second year, so it still would work out.

To HelpMePleaseee. If you plan to go to UCSD, don't be worried about social life. I wasn't a Winter Admit, but this one girl that I know of met people through winter rush for sororities even though she wasn't planning to join any. Joining clubs is also =]

For the rest of you who plan to go to UCSD,

Take community college classes during fall quarter. If you want to know if your community college offers classes that are transferrable to UCSD, go to the following website:
http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html

Also, for required classes based on your major:
http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/front/courses.html

i got the winter 08 thing too... it is very annoying

i think it's annoying too. :( i'm sad.

I'm really still leaning to go to UCSD even for winter quarter.
I'm not sure whether or not I would have to take classes at a JC to make up fall quarter. Or maybe I have to study through summer break next year?

ty cali45 for the information
do you know wut classes an Undeclared major would need to take? I applied to SD undeclared

Also, do winter admits get to start their sophomore years in the fall like evryone else?

Another point - people routinely graduate at times other than 4 years. Some with lots of APs and an easy major will graduate in less than 4 years while others taking difficult courses like engineering or certain major/minor combos or double majors might graduate in more than 4 years. It's easy to end up having a couple of years difference in graduation dates depending on the major, etc. After your first quarter there you'll be pretty much in the same routine as everyone else. It won't matter at that point that you were a Winter admit.

Frosh/Soph/Junior/Senior standings are tied to units - not years. There'll be some people who have Soph or Junior standing in their first or second quarter due to AP credits even if they don't count for getting them out of classes.

but what does this mean for winter quarter 2008 admits:

Winter Quarter admission is offered to students like yourself, whose admission ranking score falls outside the parameters for our limited number of Fall Quarter places.

i know the feeling when i read that too

it made me a bit mad and i felt insulted
"students like yourself" ... students like myself?
but i got over it. im currently trying to find out as much info as possible regarding classes, housing, summer, jc courses, etc, because i still plan to attend
going to submit an SIR by 4/1 whether it be SD or some other UC

thank all of you guys for the information and advice

theres some hope

my friend who got accepted for winter quarter 2008 called the admissions office and they told him if he wanted to go during fall 2007 then he could because many of the admits to san diego do not end up going there. give it a try if ucsd is the school u want to go to
