Winter Break

When will the winter holidays start this year? The Cornell University Academic Calendar says that the last day of scheuled exams is 12/15-19. So if exams end on the 19th of december, when will the winter break begin?

umm the 20th? lol isnt that obvious? but if your last exam is on the 15th, thats when yours starts.

I thought it would be the 20th as well but then the calendar says that the winter session period begins on the 26th and 3 week classes begin on the 2nd (of jan). I'm not sure what the winter session period is or whether the 3 week classes are part of the required curriculum; can someone help me out here? I am asking about this because I have to book a return ticket back home. That reminds me - will there be anything important to do during the winter break that I need to stay back at Cornell for?

you will not know your exact exam schedule until you have your classes - which will be after you sign up for them next August if you are an incoming freshman...BUT - as soon as you do get your schedule you can figure out your exam schedule and plan your trip home at winter break...

you could plan to be home the entire month - if you are interested in rush for fraternities/sororities you will need to head back to Ithaca a week earlier in January
hope this helps...

The 3 week winter session is not a required part of the curriculum....

Unlike some universities, which have very active Winter Sessions, Cornell has only a few Winter Session courses, and even some of those take place in locations other than Ithaca. Most people are away from Cornell for the entire Winter Break (at least until fraternity/sorority rush starts). And the dorms close durnig Winter Break, so if you're living on campus, you HAVE to leave anyway (although if it was impossible to go home, you could probably sublet a room in an apartment near the campus for the month very cheaply). If the last exam is on the 19th, you're going to need to be out of your dorm room by the middle of the day on the 20th. You do not have to leave during any of the other breaks; the dorms stay open.

Cool. Thanks a lot guys.
