Iirc Pomp&Circ is in Fantasia 2000 so you may have been onto something!
We are watching the big air qualifying and we are trying to figure out what the towers behind it are. It looks like cooling towers for a nuclear plant???
Yup, thatās what they are.
From what I have read, they are cooling towers for a former steel plant. Not a nuclear plant.
Yes- my husband just found that. I am scared of heights and this looks awful! Iām a city girl, but when I watch skiing I want to see mountains!
I know I shouldnāt complain about the coverage. But can anyone explain to me why they are doing the Today Show outside? They are in NYC, not at the Olympics! Why? Are we supposed to think that they are actually in China?
I was thinking the very same thing. So phony
We were watching big air qualifying last night and H and I both said that the course had the ugliest view we had ever seen in the Olympics with those towers in the background.
Even after they painted the Olympic logo on the one cooling tower that is in many of the TV shot backgrounds? LOL
I thought the painted tower looked awful!
We arenāt watching any of the live/replay TV stuff. Everything is on replay on NBC Sports app- so other than commentary on the event I donāt have to listen to anything.
Maybe I just donāt remember or because I usually watch the TV feed that edits, but I canāt remember a time with more DNF in events like skiing and luge. I think in normal years the competitors have at least been to the location for an international event prior, Iām pretty sure this has not been the case this time. Itās frustrating to watch so many people not be able to make a complete run.
I watched it last night, donāt recall the political comments, but I loved the ice skating competition.
Iām not watching them.
It was fantastic. The strength of these skaters is truly unbelievable.
I miss seeing medal ceremonies.
Are they not doing them? My watching so far has been very limited
I just looked it up. They changed it awhile back to one big medal ceremony each evening.
They do have the medal ceremony replays on NBC Sports. They say they do it because of altitude, but I think it is a money grab. We went to the Vancouver games in 2010 and they sold tickets for the medal ceremony. We were lucky that we were at events that had the medal ceremony after. Good thing my kids are hockey fans. They sang the Canadian anthem a lot that week.
Does anyone want to discuss Eileen Gu? The commentary during her event last night (I will refrain from posting resultsā¦and if you are interested in freestyle last nightās event was amazing) was super positive and glowing. I read an interesting article yesterday that was pretty critical of her decision to compete for China instead of US. I can see both sides, but it was interesting to see the different perspectives.
(She is a super talented young freestyle skier born and raised and trained/competed in US, Chinese mother and American father).
I think she is a well oiled marketing machine for China. Very rehearsed IMO.
I think there is a hypocrisy saying she wants to inspire social change for women, yet is aligned with China.
Sheās a fantastic athlete, a joy to watch and very smart. But I do think she will be viewed as an opportunist by many.
