Winter Registration for Winter (Xmas) Courses

I’m currently a student at the university of texas and I was curious if anyone has knowledge of coursework for engineering majors over the Christmas/holiday break. I found UMD and UNH offering a few, but it would cost about $6,000 for tuition, travel, housing, etc. just to take one class. I have reached out to about 20 universities by phone and e-mail but a lot of them don’t have a concrete answer on class offerings for this upcoming 2018 winter holiday/break.

Furthermore, as the current semester continues I will have less time to make arrangements for this because of study time increasing and finals so it is very important for me to get advise on this matter. I have reached out to my current faculty/staff/advisors and none of them had anything remotely encouraging to say so anyone with experience would be greatly appreciated in regards to this.
Thank you for listening
Moderators- sorry I do not know what forum topic this should go under

Why do you need to take these courses at all? On another thread, you are worried about unsubsidized loans. That being the case…why don’t you work over the winter holiday break…instead of spending MORE money on courses at another college (where you won’t be able to use financial aid at all because you aren’t a mateiculated student.

  1. you would have to see if the class you take would transfer to U of T.
  2. you have to see if there are classes that you want to take.
  3. These classes have to be amenable to being taken in a short time frame…business writing would be a good short term class but Calc 2 would be very difficult
  4. You could see if there are online classes that are available…that would be easier
  5. Why do you need to take these courses?

SUNY Binghamton has a Winter Session and you can look for what courses they have and some are online

Thank for your kind words. I am interested in finishing a little bit sooner than the anticipated graduation date if I could squeeze in courses in between the spring/fall semesters then I think it may be enough to finish early.
I have heard of lot of good things about SUNY, I will look into them as well.

@Savingtrooper

Please think before you do. In addition to the tuition costs, you will also need lodging and food.

In addition, many colleges do NOT allow courses taken elsewhere to be applied towards graduation requirements in the major. I’d be checking THAT also.

And again I ask…you are thinking about spending money during this winter term…but on another thread, you state you are looking at finances with a little concern.

Maybe getting a job is a better idea.

Definitely check with your adviser/registrar if any courses taken elsewhere will transfer.
