Winter/Spring GPA

I had a 3.8 when I applied and was hoping to go to UCSD, but I'll be getting a 3.11 GPA this quarter (winter), bringing my total down to 3.67. Will I be rescinded?

No, of course not! If you have good test scores and good extracurricular activities you could definitely make it!
Also, when you are applying you could provide an explanation for your decreased GPA.

UCSD will probably still admit you with that GPA. It’s pretty high for UCSD. I think you’ll be fine.

Hmm… on the off chance I am admitted to Cal or UCLA, will I be rescinded once they find out my winter GPA?

@underbear

Well, UCLA already knows about your winter grades; they take them into consideration when reviewing applications. Berkeley is probably the same.

Again, I think you’ll be alright. They’ll only rescind any offer of admission if you do poorly in your Spring semester or something.

I’m assuming your winter quarter doesnt end till next week ish? Theres no guarentee they’ll look at your winter grades since its after the TAU. So they’ll probably look at the 3.8 more. Since ucla is competitive in that way, they might look at your major classes from winter quarter.

Yeah my winter quarter doesn’t end till the end of March, and I won’t know my grades for sure until April. Do I have to update my winter quarter grades once I get them?

Yes you should update them once you know them on the TAU. And you should directly email UCLA about your grades

Hmm… I don’t see them requiring me to update my winter grades. Wouldn’t it be disadvantageous for me to do so, since it lowers my GPA?

yeah it’s best to hide your grades for as long as possible.

/sarcasm

Winter GPA will be included in terms and conditions. From what I remember, UCSD basically said don’t fail any classes, and keep your overall GPA good (3.0+, probably). Berkeley’s conditions were the hardest I saw, 3.0+ semester/quarter GPA for all terms not on your application (winter, spring, and summer). Those were the terms I was given (CS/EECS) two years ago.

Either way, with a 3.5+ overall GPA, and 3.0+ semester GPA, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble.

(Side note, if your spring quarter ends really late, make sure your CC sends transcripts on time! Mine didn’t, it turned out okay in the end, but the “Admission will be cancelled in 5 days” email is terrifying.)

OK that’s reassuring, thank you.
