Hi - for current parents/students - what has your experience been with studying abroad during January? What trips have you or your student taken? How was it? Any tips or suggestions on the experience?

I will be eager to hear about past trips as well. My son is going to Turkey/Greece this January. I can say that the “before” aspect has been very organized. Lots of group bonding, etc(they had to choose a roommate for the duration of the trip) and links forwarded about domestic flights and optional add-on excursions. He is very excited.

I will be able to answer this in February! My D is also going abroad in January. Her friends who have done it before have really liked it.

Which trip is she taking? How did she find the preparation class in the fall to be? Any comments regarding the application process?

Rockvillemom, I’m sending you a PM.

D did not find the preparation class to be too taxing - I know she had to do a bit of research for a group presentation, but I think that was about it. However there are some other trips that require a more extensive amount of reading and writing some papers.

The application process was not difficult at all. Students have to write a short essay about why they want to go on this trip, that was the hardest part.

Thanks for the info and for the PM. It all sounds like a wonderful opportunity.

S had to write 3 short essays for the trip he was going to go on this January. (first Elon hiccup-they changed the trip program and leaders and he chose not to go) the essays were why do you want to go kind of thing and how does it relate to study.

you can go on the isabella cannon website and walk thru the process without submitting.
