I am admitted to winter transfer at U-M and I already paid the deposit. Since I am an international student, I have to change my I-20 form with U-M's school title. Yesterday I received an email from U-M that need my current school to complete a transfer-in form, and then U-M would process my I-20 as international student. Does it mean if I got U-M I-20, I will be directly enrolled U-M student. Even later in Dec. if some other institutions accepted me, I still not be able to change? Besides, since my VISA will not expire untill next summer, if I did not leave the U.S this winter break, can I still use my old VISA with my previous school to attend U-M? Thanks very much!

Yes once your current school releases your sevis to U-M, you are automatically considered as a U-M student. Once you are awarded an I-20 from U-M for you to say yes to another university and they getting you an I-20 is very unlikely not impossible though because I do not really know if there is a way U-M will release your sevis to another school in such a short period. Of course you can still use your visa. Your visa is what keeps you legal in the US, no matter what school you go to as long it has not expired you are good to go in any school. Your I-20 however is for a specific school
hope I helped!

By the way did you transfer from another 2 or 4 year institution?
I am an international student too, and I am applying to U-M for fall 2013. Can you please fill me in, with the whole process like which documents you submitted and all that. Thanks a lot!

@tahinak: Thanks for the email. My confusion is if I let my current college to sign the transfer-in form to U-Mich and U-M gave me the i-20, does this mean it would be impossible for me to change my school if later in December I was accepted to some other places?

I applied transfer from my current 4-year institution to UMich. You really asked a big question. Are you a transfer or freshman applicant? Basically what you should do is complete Common Application as comprehensive as you can to express yourself, and submit the required documents like recommendations as listed in U-M website application check list.

Have a nice Thanksgiving!
