I'm from New Jersey and not huge on cold weather.
What's the winter like in Ann Arbor?

Pretty dismal. I think it’s tolerable but I’ve lived here all my life. As long as you dress appropriately for the weather it is not too cold, I don’t think, but it is very gray for most of the school year.

Probably a bit colder than New Jersey. I can speak for Chicago winters, which had average highs around 10-20. Not too much snow in Chicago (I hear there’s more in Michigan), but lot’s of dry, cold, windy days. Winter unofficially starts a few weeks after Halloween, and ends around late March. Fall and spring are gorgeous. Summer is too, although it can get a bit hot and humid. This is all Chicago, though.

A broad generalization is that Ann Arbor is usually 10 degrees colder than New Jersey. It’s grayer and longer too. Once you learn to dress for it, the cold is pretty tolerable.

There’s a lot of people I know from NJ here and they seem to be okay with the weather.

Senior0991: Add some snow and that sounds about right. I think January-February are the coldest months. Sometimes Fall weather stretches into November.

We had an extremely wet fall last year. On the first day of school my cell phone got water damage INSIDE my purse. I purchased a raincoat and boots within the first month. When it started to get cold the rain really sucked.

thanks a lot this was definitely helpful

Well, overall the winter is bearable; there are only a few days that are super cold. Expect a temperature range of (-30 to 100)F year round
