So…My freshman year and sophomore year almost straight A’s. Then I transferred to one of the countries top high schools, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. Extremely hard school. My grades my junior year were all B’s with three C’s… Insert crying emoji. (I don’t know if this makes a difference) The reason they fell so drastically was because my mother was hospitalized in the fall and into the winter and then at the end of the winter/spring my parents filed for divorce. Completely making my junior year almost like a soap opera. (Should I even bother mentioning that in my application? Would they take it into consideration?) I have 80 hours of community service. I’ve taken nothing but honors classes throughout my highschool career. 7 Ap classes, (one of those classes I made a C in). I’ve played JV tennis (freshman year) and I’ve managed a soccer team (sophomore year). My unweighted GPA is 3.6 and my ACT is 29. I’m retaking my ACT hoping for a 30-32. SAT of 1300. So, the question is… what are my chances at the school of my dreams?
Your GPA is in the right range. Work on pushing up your ACT scores. And for the essay, there’s a UW prompt that encourages you to mention any circumstances that may have impacted your HS performance. I would suggest finishing your essays by early September so you can focus on getting good grades senior year, to show that you’re back on track. I can’t answer your ultimate question other than to say that if you take all of the advice above, you have a pretty good shot for sure. Good luck!
Do you think getting three C’s is going g to be my death sentence? Or have people gotten in with a few C’s like I?
