Wisconsin Vs Illinois

I am planning on majoring in Political Science. The reason why I would like to go to Illinois is because one of my long time friends is going there as well and since its in state it is cheaper, and they are giving me loans for the the full amount. I want to go to Wisconsin because I just like the school better. Ive visited both and like Wisconsin better. They are ranked higher and I feel that there is a lot more opportunities available being a Political Science major in a capitol city. I dont know though. Wisconsin is more expensive (by $11K) and they are only giving me about 6k in loans. Any help? :)

PS. Just incase it's not given I am referring to University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

If you’re in state then UIUC is hard to pass up. Rankings are practically the same for both overall, but UW has a pretty good political science department I think. In terms of prestige (at least in my area which is equidistant from UW and UIUC) they are equal. If you really want to go to UW and are willing to take out the extra loans then go for it.

Go with UIUC. Why pay more for basically the same school ? They are equal academically.

Call UW financial aid office and let them know your situation… it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Social and college lifestyle they are far apart. UW>>>UIUC.

^ Interesting, why do you say that? I was always under the impression they were fairly similar socially

Barrons usually has good reasons but he’s biased to UW.
