am seriously thinking about transferring BUT...
ok first things first - stats:
College: UW-Madison
Year: Freshman
Would-be major: English/comparative literature
Thinking of transferring to: Mcgill/U of Toronto
Reasons:
1. they don't have a v. strong arts programme here (not that i know of the ones in mcgill/ut..that's y i need advice!! > <)
2. career-wise, better for me to graduate from a canadian university as im a canadian citizen
3. tuition
basically that's it..
SO whats the verdict?
advice much appreciated!!! =)

From my knowledge, the schools are comparable in quality, so the choise is wise if it is really what you want to do. Since you're a Canadian citizen, it probably would be best to attend a school in Canada. McGill and UToronto also have the advantage of being the best in their country (which will probably look good to employers) whereas Madison is not considered one of the very best in the U.S.

I'd pay the cheaper tuition and go to one of the Canadian unis. Hell, I'd even go to McGill over Madison and I plan on living/workin in the U.S., but that's just my opinion.

yeh i know. problem is, my friends keep telling me how it's a stupid idea cos wisconsin has a much better reputation world-wide.
plus im not sure whether the english programme is better in mcgill or not

much better rep than mcgill? hmm...

why did you go to UW-madison in the first place?
UToronto and McGill are pretty good schools, IMO, if you are a canadian citizen, you should only go to the states, if you got in to ivies/stanford/caltech. if it's not one of the top 20 schools in the states, staying in canada is a better investment.
McGill arts>Utoronto Arts

Long story. cos i went to hk after fourth grade. universities in canada do not accept students from hk unless we've completed our alevels, which would mean wasting a year (seriously i have no idea how the whole system came to be)
that was y i came to uw-madison in the first place..
also heard tht mcgill calls itself the 'Harvard' in Canada..
is it real hard to get into?
thanks guys, for the reassurance =)

LMAO, it's funny how people make those analogies lol.
i can tell you that getting in is very easy, but the curriculum here is rough, it's dog eat dog. The average of courses are pretty much pre-set, and proportions of people scoring in different ranges are pre-set as well, so it's just a huge pool of people trying to drown each other LOL.
However, the Atheletic facilities at UofT is top notch!!!
we have an indoor track, indoor pool, indoor basketball, tennis, badminton, ping pong, gym, kendo, fitness and anything you can think of :).
In addition, the food in downtown toronto is TERRIFIC! they are CHEAP and GOOD!

but UofT is more towards the engineering/science side rite?
wud definitely agree to ur pt about the food in toronto tho..haha..
