I plan on taking the SAT again on October 10th.
Critical reading = 610
Math = 570
Writing = 660
(previous SAT scores)

For ECs I have: Observership for 1 month at Doctor's Office, Academic Decathlon (Junior year and will be doing it again this year), Ecology Club, Ambassador for the I AM FIT program at my school, did clinical services for a local hospital where I was able to get hands on experience on treating patients, and I am a member of HOSA.)

For community service I have about 10 or so hours for doing a clean up at a local lake (I volunteered).

I go to a magnet school which is ranked in the top 5 at my state (Georgia) and I need to get out of this state for college! It is a school that specializes in Health careers and Engineering and it gives out the most difficult courses. I have taken 6 sciences and 4 of all other core subjects.

University of Vermont
UNC Chapel Hill
John Carroll University
University of Minnesota (Twin Cities)
and Boston Colleges are some of the schools I have looked at.

Do I have a chance at any of these schools?

You have a decent profile, but I think you should look for private out-of-state universities because several of those public schools on your list (most notably UNC) are far more competitive in terms of out-of-state admissions.

Is your worry financially related? If so, don’t worry; they’re are plenty of affordable schools outside of Georgia. What are you interested in majoring in?

Why not apply to University of Georgia? It will be a much better deal (free) than any of those schools with the HOPE Scholarship. Georgia is comparable to Minnesota and Chapel Hill will be an unreasonable reach for you.

If you can get your SAT’s up you might be able to get into Georgia Tech, but that will still be a reach (but also free).

I need to get out of Georgia, PERIOD. I plan on doing Pre Med and studying orthopedics so suggest some colleges for me please. Just as long as they are out of the deep south because I am fed up with living here.

You would need for UNC at least a 1400 M/V for the SAT. And over a 1300 M/V for BC. Even with those scores they are stretches, especially Chapel Hill who accepts over 80% of their kids from North Carolina.

If you are planning on going to Medical School, I really would urge you to consider UGA. You would save a ton of money and that is a very respectable program. I want to go there for grad school, and I do not get the impression that it is a deep South locale. Athens is supposed to be a bit more liberal than the rest of the state.

Minnesota will also be a bit of a reach, as will many OOS publics (and they will be very expensive).

If you want to get into the UofM-Twin Cities, you will. But, who would want to go to UofM-Twin Cities from out of state?! Top students in Minnesota doesn’t even go to UofM-Twin Cities. In general, the very top ones goes to Ivy League schools + Stanford + MIT + Duke. Then, the next group goes to UChicago + Northwestern, then to Carleton, then to UW-Madison. What’s left goes to the UofM.

okay, I will repeat this, IT IS CRUCIAL that I get out of the deep South for college because that will really boost my confidence and give me the much needed happiness I need. I really do not want to go to any college in GA.

Even the upper south like Virginia or North Carolina are good enough states for me but I repeat I cannot stay GEORGIA for another year after high school. Any small school is good enough for me and U OF M is GREAT. I would love to go to Minnesota for college, it is a great state and better than Georgia.

Apples and Oranges. Minnesota is a fine institution and rising rapidly. It is silly to compare them to schools like HYPSM.

Also let me play the devil’s advocate:

How much time have you spent outside of Georgia? It is very misguided to think that your happiness depends on going somewhere specific, that is a narrow and dangerous mindset.

Other schools to consider: Elon, Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, Indiana, Dickinson, Skidmore, Gettysburg, Loyola Maryland, Ohio State, NC State, Virginia Tech

I have spent a lot of time out of GA for vacations and I have lived in states like Pennsylvania and NY, I really want to get out of GA. I have lived here long enough and do not even bother to preach to me about how my statements about georgia are superficial, I have been from Atlanta to Valdosta and I am not coming back to this state after high school. Sir, please walk in my shoes, I have lived a tough life here and I will do a lot to get out. So PLEASE work with me.

thank you for your list of colleges as well, Rutgers and NC State might be great fits for me. They have D-1A football programs (I never got to play football because my high school did not have football and the public high schools were against my type (asian american) playing football, I even went on the field and before I could practice, I was picked on and beaten up as well as having racial slurs fly my way), I think I am willing to give up football just so I can get out of this state. My commitment is THAT DEEP.

willmingtonwave - Minnesota is a fine research institute. Minnesota is a notch or two below UW-Madison at the undergrad level, that’s why students who gets into UW-Madison rarely attend Minnesota with help of MN/WI tuition program. If OP has to pay out of state tuition anyway, why not choose UW-Madison?

Substantial scholarships are probably out of question for your first year if you score 1900. However, if you do well in your first year, you have opportunities to apply to scholarships offered by departments.
