I have officially decided on a school and paid the enrollment deposit. I know withdrawing and sending letters is good courtesy and advised, but is it necessary? I'm going to do it either way, but I'm just curious.

You got it 100% right – it’s a good courtesy. But it’s not necessary. If you don’t send in the deposit check on time, one of three things will happen – (1) They send you a letter folowing up whether you want to come; (2) They send you a letter saying that since you didn’t accept, they removed your name from the list or (3) they return the non-courtesy and say nothing (and you never hear from them again).

Good luck in college!!
