Withdrawing Application for an ED Acceptee

I was admitted ED to CMU and I don't know when to cancel my other apps. I sent my enrollment in yesterday and the admissions office said they got my deposit. The office mailed a letter saying they got my deposit, but the letter won't reach me till next week.

I'm going on a cruise for all of next week (7 days total) and won't have access to email, mail, or internet. I want to cancel my other apps this week so I can fully enjoy my winter break. My parents, however, are hesitant and want me to wait till the ldeposit etter comes, even though the admissions office already said that they got my deposit.

Should I cancel my other apps soon? Is there any danger if I wait until early January to cancel my other apps? Also, do I have to contact colleges that have my transcripts but don't have a complete application? I sent my transcripts in advance to some college before I got my ED acceptance.

I'd appreciate any help from current or former ED acceptees.

Yes, withdraw all your other applications now.

In the time it took you to type your three paragraphs, you could have googled the telephones of your other schools.

It’s really not that difficult. Congrats on your ED accept however. Now pay if fwd and finish your commitment.

BTW: regarding your parents’ concerns: if a school accepts you ED and can’t be counted upon to process something routine as a deposit without accidentally cancelling your admissions slot, you should tell them to bar the doors next Sept… You have no earthly reason to attend such a dysfunctional zoo. ; )

@T26E4 I think they just want a paper confirmation of my enrollment. Unfortunately, my deposit letter is the only thing that CMU will send me before March :frowning: I don’t know why my parents are so concerned seeing that I’ve already gotten my acceptance online and via mail.

LOL: I understand. Congrats on the cause on your logistics problem, regardless!

You should withdraw any other applications you have completed at your earliest convenience. It would be courteous and appropriate to notify any colleges where you have files open that you’ve been accepted early to CMU, so you will not be completing your application there.

But I understand your parents’ impulse to wait until you have the tangible letter in hand. It’s completely nutty; T26E4 is right about that. By the same token, if I were the parent in this situation, I might be just that nutty. Heck, T26E4’s kids are younger than mine, so I think it’s possible that in a couple more years, when College Hysteria hits the E4 household, even T26E4 might become just that nutty!

I don’t think anything bad will happen if “your earliest convenience” doesn’t roll around until January. That’s just the beginning of reading season at most colleges and universities.

And congratulations on your acceptance to a fantastic university.

Thanks for the advice.
