when do we have to withdraw our other apps by? do we have to do it before their deadline or as soon as we recieve our decision from princeton?

I was wondering about this too. Also, how does one officially "withdraw" an application?

My friend was accepted to Princeton ED and he's doing it by faxing/mailing a letter to the admissions office. It basically thanks them for starting his file (I guess...) and says like "it is my regret that I won't be applying here." It says he was accepted at his ED school and asks them to withdraw his application. He put in a self-addressed/stamped postcard and asked them to mail it to him when they did that...I'm not sure if that idea will work but I guess it was kind of clever.

Also, I know that some schools require a letter with your signature instead of an email, I guess to make sure that whoever is asking for withdrawal is actually the applicant and not some sabotaging fiend.

but by when must we do it?

I just did it via email, but asked them to send a short reply. Just do it now, you'll have to do it at some point anyway. Was du heute kannst besorgen, das verschiebe nicht auf morgen (="What you can do today don't defer to tomorrow")

What if the colleges only have my secondary school transcripts? For example, my guidance counselor has already sent my high school transcripts to several schools including MIT and Columbia. If I have not submitted my application, do I still need send an email or letter "rescinding" my application?

i don't think you. you probably can if you want to make it a little easier for them, but i think they'll consider your application incomplete anyway and guess that you decided not to apply.

That's what I thought too, kraor.
And a quick e-mail took care of the schools that already had my pre-app (I hadn't sent the Common App or supplements to any schools yet). Just make sure you get an e-mail of acknowledgement back.

Yea I'm in the same boat (I didn't send my commonapp, only recs and transcripts). I already declined my University of Michigan admission, but other than that I'm all set.

And thanks for the inspirational german quote phillyland! :p
