Withdrawing from a Class

Hello, I had a question about withdrawing from a class and I was hoping someone could give me a definitive answer. I recently received my acceptance as a transfer to UCI (Math Major) and I was told that I would need to keep a 3.0 average GPA this semester, but I am currently in danger of failing my linear algebra course. I want to drop my math class, but the best I can do is receive a W. Would you believe that it is relatively safe for me to drop this class with a W, this is my first W, or would you advise against this decision.

You should contact UCI immediately and ask if your acceptance will be rescinded if you drop it. If they give you the okay to drop it, then do it. If not, study the hell out of it since your next two years will literally ride on this class.

Thank you for this, I didn’t actually think about asking the admissions office about this. I’ll go do this right away and see how it goes. Much appreciated for the help.

I’m in the same shoes as you. What was their response?

So what they told me was that they couldn’t tell me anything definitive until I submitted my SIR and my transcripts. I just ended up asking a couple of my older friends and one had done something pretty similar and said it shouldn’t really pose an issue, at least it didn’t for him.
