Withdrawing

I need to know if I was to withdraw from beauty school and go to school somewher else next year how it would affect my financial aid. I'm on full pell and a student loan with the school i go to now.

Aid received for this year would have to be paid back.

After you’ve done that, and then later enroll elsewhere, you’ll be able to reapply for financial aid then. However, if you are still owing on the grant and loan aid from this year, you won’t be able to get any aid.

Well that depends on when you withdraw. Rules will vary by school but if you withdraw from all classes before a certain % of the semester is complete then it is likely you will have to repay all aid for the semester. You must check with your school for their policy if you do not want this to happen. You may be better off at least trying to finish the semester. If you complete the semester and then withdraw from the program you will not have to repay federal aid.

If you withdraw early and have to repay aid then even if you have repaid it you may still have a problem with financial aid in the future. Every schools must have a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy for financial aid eligibility. Part of this usually includes that you must have completed a certain % of all classes attempted at any school to be eligible for financial aid. If withdrawing from all your classes makes you drop below this % then you may be ineligible for FA. This can be appealed, but best to avoid the situation if possible. (This happened to my son. He had never even applied for FA before but when he returned to school after dropping out for a couple of years he applied and was initially denied because he had dropped a whole semester of classes - paid for out of pocket - 2 years previously).
