I’m currently a freshman at USMA and think I will finish this semester between a 3.0 or 3.2. I was wondering what my chances are at transferring to another school. I would love to either go to Boston College or USC (SoCal), but doubt I have the GPA to get in. I had a 3.65 GPA in High School (weighted) and about 1300 on my SAT. I was captain of my football and rugby teams both mu junior and senior year, and was MVP both Junior and Senior year (if that helps).
I was wondering how much of a boost having USMA on my transcript when transferring will help. Are colleges gonna understand how much stress we are put under? And will being an athlete help? I know people are gonna say stick it out at USMA, but I just don’t know if that is the right thing for me. I would consider ROTC, but not sure yet. I know BC and USC are not easy to get into, but idk. I Wanna give it a shot. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.
Each person is different. First year at any service academy is very difficult. My daughter is a sophomore and attends a service academy. On many occasions, she thought of leaving, especially during the months after Christmas break. She decided to stick it out. Tough decision. I wish you the best.
What is more important…serving in the military? being a college athlete? Majoring in ?
How will you pay for the new college?
Do the colleges of interest want you to be a junior when you transfer?
As a service academy student, you don’t have to commit to the military until Junior year…why not keep at it until then now that you made it through the tough part?
If you want to serve in the military, then maybe it is time to drop the sport.
If you think you can go pro, maybe it is time to transfer.
If you want to be an engineer, maybe it is also time to drop the sport (go down to club/IM level)
Where were you accepted last year? Those places are probably worth considering. Contact the admissions offices and ask if you need a whole new application, or if you just need to reactivate your application from last year.
Appreciate all the comments. I only applied to USMA last year so have would have to start a new application. Also, I truly do think their is a chance I can go pro. But Does anyone think i have a shot to get into these schools? My essays are pretty good Imo and I’ll find a way to pay for school.
Unless you want to pursue diff service I don’t think any colleges will buy the story of Army Rotc unless you want to be in reserve or national guard and pursue a different full time career. Your grades look too low for transfer app. For BC USC, suggest at least 3.33 after completing 3 semesters at WP. You SAT should be 1450+ or ACT 31+ with 3.33 GPA. You college grades matter more than high school. They will just focus on test scores and WP GPA. Your essays are very critical and you will need at least 1 college academic recommendation from WP.
If you’re an URM don’t bet on getting in using that angle when applying as transfer student. What ever you decide good luck. Frankly I would stick with WP graduate and attend a graduate school. Unless you really don’t want to serve active duty. If that’s the case you should have not applied to WP in the first place instead applied to Civ college ROTC Program. Someone else who really wanted WP 4 years could have taken your slot.
