Women Engineer dorm

does anyone know if UDelaware has sections of dorm for women engineering major?

Through the FYE (First-Year Experience) and LIFE program - there are clusters where students who have similar interests can live in certain sections of the residence halls together.

Depending on the major, there are various life clusters. To find out if the major (Chem Eng. for example) has a cluster, just search for it here:

Thank you. That's exactly what I was searching for. We'll be sure to visit soon.

markudel:
If you request one of these LIFE things, are you sure to get it?

hey markudel, i'm confused. are the LIFE program rooms coed by rooms and not by floors? I notice a lot of campuses these days have mixed floors by rooms, even my S's university. i was hoping for more privacy for D, at least gender by floors. We'll learn more when we visit I'm sure. UDel sounds like a good fit for D.

weenie I think they accept almost everyone who applies primarily because if there are too many people who apply to a cluster they just make 2 I believe.

billy's mom Clusters vary and can be co-ed by alternating room, co-ed by wing, co-ed by floor or single sex for females. I think the location of the cluster within the residence hall varies on who is in it. I'm not sure how housing does it but I can assure you that privacy and stuff is a big concern at UD housing and they are great with making sure everyone feels ok in the residence halls.

Thank you so much! We are definitely going to the open house. UDel has what she wants and even ice skating too! I read your other informative posts and answers about the school. They are extremely helpful!

Is your daughter a figure skater? I figure skated for the Collegiate team for four years and loved every second of it. I have some contacts if you need to talk to people.

That's so amazing you skate! D started skating again. Maybe wants to join a collegiate synchro team. I'm hunting early for schools w/ strong chem engr w/biochemical concentrations and maybe near a rink. Oh yeah, great food and must!

Well you can't beat Delaware then to be honest.

Mark is right. Delaware would be the school for all of that.

alright, in your honest opinions, is it best to go to colleges' open house days on campuses, or instead - go on a tour whenever we can get there and contact the specific department that we're interested in. We're not able to go to many campuses at all. thanks.

I don't think it really matters - I think it can get crowded and it is a bit more impersonal if you go to a group 'open house' day - whereas the individual tours M-F tend to be smaller and more personal. For a real treat, avoid mondays and fridays - if you go on a tuesday, wednesday or thursday, you will almost always have a small tour, if not your own.

thanks. we decided to wait til she's ready and go on our own. I really think UDelaware is the fit for her!

Good to hear - it's a stunning institution.
