Women in Engineering

Does anybody know if girls have a better chance of getting in? I read on Fiske that the male/female ratio is 68/32, but i don't know if it means i have less competition, or Caltech just isn't interested in getting more girls.

While it is true that there is a 2:1 male:female ratio in the accepted applicants pool, there is something like a 3:1 ratio in the the application pool itself, so there is a slightly higher acceptance rate for female applicants. However, this has more to do with the more self-selecting nature evident in female applicants, and is not related to a bias from Caltech admissions, which bases admissions solely on merit.

well then i guess i shouldn't get my hopes high. Thanks for replying.

Ben's written a great post about this in the thread "3 Questions for the Caltech Expert", post #2:
