Hi! I’m a high school senior who loves St. Olaf (and my stats would probably qualify me for some merit aid ). My only hesitation that that the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies class offerings seen really limited. Other liberal arts offer classes such “Sexuality and Power”, “Gender Relations in the Modern Era” etc. but I can’t find any such offerings on the St. Olaf class list. Is my impression accurate?
Probably – I don’t think of that as a strong area for them. Have you looked at Mount Holyoke, Smith, or Bryn Mawr? Or Macalester or Oberlin?
I am applying to Macalester and Oberlin. Generally I’m not interested in women’s colleges (except Barnard). St. Olaf is perfect for me in so many other ways that I’m hoping I can make it work. I’d like to double major in Biology and Women’s and Gender Studies.
It doesn’t work if they don’t offer the courses. I do think you might be able to cross register for a few courses at Carleton, so check that out, but put academics #1 on your search criteria. A college isn’t perfect if you can’t get the major & coursework you want.
Cross registration does not work due to semester vs quarter systems but there are many offerings. My D has a minor (or maybe a double major?) in WG&S. There is a lot going on and some very solid student organizations.
There are offerings in other departments that fall under the major as well. The whole school is very interdisciplinary in the approach to learning.
