wonderful hard decision

I am accepted by UCSD and UCSB,

UCSB- Business Econ
UCSD- Econ

but UCSB offer me to enroll in their honor program has benefits of first batch to register for classes...etc

and UCSD has a better reputation and ranking.

i needs u guys opinions, thanks!!

Flip a coin. Two wonderful choices!

and UCSD, depending on the person, has a below than desirable social life compared to SB.
I’d pick Santa Barbara.

santa barbara is a great school, i just didn’t choose it because i couldn’t see myself there. i think you need to imagine yourself going there, eating there getting coffee there and such see which one you think will make you feel more at “home”

ucsb 5000 char

get drunk then ask yourself which one you really want to go to

I think if you’re in the honors program at UCSB, with priority registration and it’s other benefits, you should choose UCSB, especially when you’re in a popular major like economics. You have the rest of your life to live in a boring suburb like La Jolla, but only four years to live as an undergrad… and Isla Vista provides an incredible undergraduate atmosphere… I’m a recent grad and I miss it tremendously and will always remember it :)

UCSD is more prestigious, and talked to tons of people (including 2 of my cousins and lots of friends) who say that 4 years in a craphole like Isla Vista is just too much. 1 year, maybe 2 would be fun. But I’ve heard it gets old. Also, if your the type of person of LOVEES to party, you may want to stay away because you won’t get ANYTHING done. I know a guy who dropped out and works at LA fitness now as a personal trainer- he said he “Had to get out of there.” UCSB is fun to visit, but gets old if you go there. I’m not gonna lie tho- you probably would have a lot of fun.

WEAR A GODDAMN CONDOM THOUGH–There are some dirty sluts at that school!

Ah, another ■■■■■.

One of the great things about Isla Vista is that it’s a student dominated community which caters to students. Everyone lives next to each other, and there are plenty of food places and coffee shops and the like open till late hours for studying and socializing. It’s a very active community, and the student dominant nature is what leads to the partying. There have also been many beautification programs launched to improve the look of the city, such as the recently completed [Pardall Beautification](http://www.dailynexus.com/article.php?a=18888). Since you seem to be applying to USC, you should know what a true crap hole is (the area surrounding USC). Isla Vista is definitely not.

How about backing this up with some facts? Lets see, for example, the four year and six year graduation rates of all the UCs using the latest graduating classes available via the UC Statfinder website:

UC | 4 Year Graduation rate (Class of 2004) | 6 Year Graduation rate (Class of 2002)

Berkeley, 69.3%, 90.2%
Davis, 51.6%, 82.8%
Irvine, 60.6%, 82.2%
Los Angeles, 67.3%, 89.3%
Riverside, 45.8%, 67.5%
San Diego, 57.6%, 86.3%
Santa Barbara, 65.0%, 83.5%
Santa Cruz 51.6%. 72.3%

Wait, what’s this??? How come Santa Barbara, where everyone parties and drops out, has the 3rd highest 4 year graduation rate, after Berkeley and LA? And a 6 year graduation rate that’s comparable to the other mid tier UCs and UCSD? Weird…

*WEAR A GODDAMN CONDOM THOUGH–There are some dirty sluts at that school! *

[Wrong again…](http://www.soc.ucsb.edu/sexinfo/question/prevalence-of-stis-among-ucsb-students)

i guess i will take everyone’s opinions into my consideration! so keep going!! add more!! please, and also thanks for ppl replied, u guys are being very helpful!! thanks

i’m in the exact same position as you, with the same majors and everything. right now im 90% sure im going to SD because i see myself getting tired of isla vista REAL fast.

I still don’t exactly by how people “get tired” of Isla Vista. UCSD doesn’t have a huge centered-community, so does that mean you’ll be “tired” as soon as you get to the school because it doesn’t offer that kind of community?

let me elaborate: i would get tired from all the kids that want to party and the whole atmosphere of a student run city.

Well, in that case, you can (and a number of students do) move out of Isla Vista to somewhere more isolated. There are a lot of apartment rentals for students in the Elwood neighborhood about 3 miles from campus accessible by the 25 SBMTD line. Also, the further west you move in Isla Vista you move, the further away you’ll be from the throngs of students, such as places west of Camino Del Sur and north of Trigo. In fact, many apartment complexes in that area even have quiet hours… However, I still think you’ll enjoy the Isla Vista n:) If not, there’s lots of options.

Oh, and because there are many students who chose to be substance free, there are plenty of things to do in Isla Vista and the campus which don’t involve drinking… like the the movie screenings in Isla Vista theatre, comedy shows in Embarcadero Hall, concerts at the Hub in the UCen, bowling at Zodos (about 3 miles from campus), the rock climbing wall on Trigo, etc. And again, everything is so close…
