I was making the same choice. They are the only 2 schools I got into out of the few I applied to.

I picked UCSD because there are more options available, it is more prestigious, it is higher ranked, and it is in a big city with lots of industry.

Yea, ucsb is a sweet party school, but we are older transfer students and living in the slums that are isla vista is probably not the best for our education

if i went to SB i wouldn’t live in IV there’s no way i could do that
id probably try out their transfer appts, or the san clemente graduate appts

I was a transfer student to UCSB in Political Science/History. I absolutely loved UCSB and Isla Vista! Didn’t harm my education one bit. I lived in Manzanita for two years (very quiet and plenty of time to study) and then lived in Isla Vista on Picasso & Camino Del Mar and again, it was quiet and I got plenty of work done. People seem to think the entirety of IV is like Del Playa, but that’s really not true. Have you ever ventured west of Camino Del Sol? Many apartment complexes there even have quiet hours! And if you are tired of house parties, there’s the amazing club scene in downtown SB.

Anyway, I lived at home for two years going to community college before I transferred. As a recent grad, trust me, you have the rest of your live to live in a quiet boring suburb. You only have two (or 3) years left to enjoy the life of an undergrad, and UCSB does a great job of that!
