Wondering about Smeal as a DUS student

Hello!

I have a question about Smeal.

I initially applied for Business Economics at a satellite campus as a Smeal pre-business major. After getting accepted to Schreyer Honors College, however, I initiated a reconsideration process and recently was accepted to University Park as my start campus. Many of the counselors at Penn State that I spoke with advised me to apply to UP as a DUS student to maximize my chances, which I did. I’m somewhat concerned, though, that I’m no longer designated as pre-business. Would any of the extra resources I would have through the Schreyer Honors College make up for not being a direct-admit to Smeal? I know fulfilling the entrance-to-major requirements and maintaining a minimum GPA for Smeal will be on me, but is there anything else I would be missing out on as a DUS student? I know, for example, that I can’t apply for the Saphire Leadership Academic Program, but would having an advisor in Schreyer be comparable? Would I still be able to attend business-related events or seminars, or, for instance, apply to be part of the Nittany Lion Club?

I would really appreciate any thoughts comparing these two!! Thanks so much for any input!

DUS and premajor students all take the same courses. There’s no difference. For all intents and purposes, premajors are DUS who have an intention toward a major.
Schreyer scholars get a personalized adviser and special opportunities (you can apply for Leadership Jumpstart, for instance). Premajors don’t.

Thank you so much for the feedback! From the research I have been able to do, it does appear that DUS students would have access to most of the opportunities that a direct admit to Smeal would. Thank you again!! I really appreciate the advice!
