Hi, I'm going to be a freshmen at University of Washington this upcoming fall, but now I've been thinking if I've made the right choice? Basically I received zero scholarships and grants from UW besides loans. I've worked really hard on outside scholarships and I only got about $8,000 non renewable scholarships. So I would end up paying around $17,000 for my freshmen year. With tuition continuing to rise, I am wondering if I should attend a community college first, then transfer to UW after two years. I want to know if that it is not too late to do so?

Paying $17,000 isn’t necessarily a problem if you’re willing to spend it. BORROWING $17,000 a year, however, would be stupid.

Who is paying for the $17k? You? Your Parents?

How much will you be borrowing?

You’re instate to UW, right?

It’s probably not too late to change your mind. Call your CC and find out.

I would be paying and that’s basically going to clean out my bank.

you have $17k times four years in your bank acct?

No, just around $15k

Now I also have another question, some of my scholarships have been sent to UW, if I decide to go to a CC, would I contact UW or the scholarship provider regarding the scholarship?

I think you’d need to contact UW about your scholarships…and maybe also the providers.

No, just around $15k

Well, then that answer is kind of clear…you don’t have the funds for 4 years at UW.

That said, you’re going to face the same problem when you transfer. You’ll only have funds for one year. What then?

My plan would be that if I attend a CC, this CC is 5 minutes from my house so I would be living at home and while attending the CC, I would be having a part time job. Hopefully by then, I would have a sufficient amount of money.

Sounds good!!!

Have you contacted your CC?

I’ve already applied to the CC, but I haven’t enrolled yet as they have not gave me the papers yet.
