Hi,

I have been accepted to UC Berkeley as a transfer student for Fall 2013. My major is EECS. Unfortunately, I will be out of town during the CalSo dates and will have to register for classes at the end of July. Do you think that I will be able to get the classes I need at this time? The classes I plan on taking are CS 61A, CS70, and EE 40. Do these classes get full quick? I am worried that the classes will be full.

Also, do transfer students majoring in EECS have to take any upper div GEs? Or are all the classes we take just major classes?

Thank You

EECS scheduling is always tricky… looks like there’s still plenty of seats in the classes you need though. Make sure you get 61A during Phase 1. Go through the online telebears as soon as you can (mine started June 10, got an adviser code on June 15 last year?), earlier registration means better chances at getting a seat.

Dunno your specific situation, but it may be worth it to take part of the 61 series over the summer. If you’re transferring without any of 61A/B/C completed, it takes a lot to catch up, and could delay graduation. Of course, if you take 61A over the summer you’d get Hilfinger for 61B, so that might not be advised. Either way, can be a good way to get a head start on requirements, make telebears a bit easier, and get into upper div CS courses sooner (and have more semesters to take them).

Yes, you’re still required to meet the engineering GE requirements, including AC and the upper div/series requirements. You’ve probably transferred in some of your GE courses.
